	@ naturefreak: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (before Admiral Kirk took over). Matt Decker from the Doomsday Machine episode would fall under the no acting captains rule. Anyway, have to say I didn't expect this one to make the front page!

	Wouldn't be a Star Trek quiz without a nitpicking Trekkie, so: I would classify Riker's stint as being an "acting captain", since he was granted the commission via subspace in the middle of a war and held it for just a few days. My girlfriend agrees. I do have one, she lives in Canada.

	Only one I didn't get was Jellico. Don't remember him, then again, I'm more of a fan of TOS than TNG. Decker was the Doomsday Planet Eater thing, wanted to collide the Enterprise, ended up stealing a shuttle and crashed into the planet eater. Spock, I'm not sure whether that would count under 'acting captain' or not, as he was only a temp replacement when Kirk went on away missions? Pike was cool for the pilot, only in one episode (like Commodore Decker, only Pike was slightly less insane!).

	Like fm_ said, Willard Decker was actually the captain of the Enterprise at the start of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Matt Decker was a different character from The Doomsday Machine.

	Spock was the captain of the Enterprise at the start of Wrath of Khan; it was a training vessel under Spock's command. Riker wasn't simply acting as captain; he was promoted to captain of the Enterprise. Had Picard not been rescued, he would have continued to be captain indefinitely. He was offered his own command after Picard was rescued, but he chose to stay on the Enterprise, requiring a rank reduction to commander.

	The current commanding officer of the of USS Enterprise is Capt. Ronald Horton. She will be decommisioned sometime in 2014 or 2015, depending on the life of her current reactors and completion of her replacement, the USS Gerald R. Ford.

	@chemicalreaper Matt Decker was the captain of the Constellation in The Doomsday Machine, Willard Decker was captain of the Enterprise when she was being refitted. Also, Spock was the captain of the Enterprise in Star Trek II when it was a training vessel, Kirk just got it cause Spock turned command over. Jellico was in command when Picard was on an away mission in "The Chain of Command"

	Jellico and Garrett were easy, as I've been watching TNG reruns recently and just saw Chain of Command/Yesterday's Enterprise a couple of weeks ago. Only two I missed were Decker (haven't seen ST:TMP in AGES, so didn't even remember someone else was in command at the start) and Harriman (knew it was a reference to ST:Generations, but never knew his name). Great quiz!

	@ chemical: Picard was on a covert mission. Because of that, Jellico was formally placed in permanent command of the Enterprise, even though the higher-ups expected Picard to return after his mission.

	I thought decker was commander of a different ship, and jellico was non-canon only. @CinnnamonPinch: I wouldn't count the new movie as Star Trek canon, it should be labled alternate reality or something entirely differnt. And If I recall, Spock had command by the 4th movie, or sometime nearafter.

	@chemicalreaper No, Jellico was the captain of the USS Cairo until they gave him command of the Enterprise, they had the formal process of transferring command on the bridge.
