The UAE fights terrorism! Oh, and they aren't crazy about Iran either. Their leaders want the USA to blow Iran to Kingdom come! Hopefully the USA is smarter than that...they have been so far.

Some of these (like Greece and Singapore) probably come from importing a relatively small number of "big ticket" items like warships.

@France: Since Turkey and Greece are in NATO together, I think Turkey's probably looking in the other direction: think Syria, Russia, and Iran.

@ Iceberg: You are correct. The big ticket items like fighter jets and warships are driving these numbers. And Greece is modernizing its military, which is driving its military import numbers up.

Singapore speaks softly and carries a big stick. Sorry to be blunt, but when you're a spectacularly prosperous Westernized city-state located between two huge Islamic countries, you invest in an army, just in case.

Iceberg must be right. Singapore, Greece and UAE surprise me, even as a former military intel officer.
