	Whilst (hey, you're British) I agree with most of your "it's a darn shame" choices, there no way I'd pick the sappy John Denver-written Leaving on a Jet Plane over the incandescent pop souffle that was Edison Lighthouse. Love Grows is simply one of the finest pure pop songs ever written. To anyone in my generation, you just have to start that song and you got the whole room joining in. Perhaps it's because you have a crappy remake rather than the original. Nonetheless, I love the quiz and plan to make it an Editor's Choice on Monday.

	Haha - I picked Leaving on a Jet Plane because I knew that had been an American number one whereas Love Grows wasn't. Personally I admit I prefer the latter: I've been humming it at random moments for the past week. Aaaand... I think I've got the original this time. I'm not sure cos I wasn't there at the time!

	Surely there can be no greater crime than Coldplay being pipped to #1 by Crazy Frog. Anyway, I'm waiting the first comment along the lines of "You Brits seems to derive a perverse pleasure in hold back your number twos, don't you?"

	Early in the quiz there are some great ones (I knew the Rod Stewart one exclusively because of the controversy behind the Sex Pistols being snubbed), but I'm not sure about some of the later ones. I'm personally jealous that I had to endure the long run at #1 of "Low" rather than the far more palatable "American Boy."

	The #2s are almost certainly all better than the #1s except for the last two--I think anyone would prefer Basshunter and Kanye over Nickelback and Flo Rida.

	very few of the number ones are note worthy. although i think its funny that a band called the seekers beat the who since they had a song called the seeker

	Great idea. However, as @rockgolf noted, if the goal was "it's a darn shame", there are quite a few I'd take exception to beyond just "Love Grows". For example, while I'm not familiar with "Combine Harvester", it would take a truly wretched song indeed to raise "Silly Love Songs" to the level of Robbed. "19" is so much more original, innovative, and influential than "A View To A Kill" that I'm honestly hoping you accidentally switched their columns. The "500 Miles" remake was awful, true, but the song itself is excellent while "Girlfriend" isn't anything to write home about. And, while "Waterloo Sunset" is of course one of the most beautiful songs in rock history, getting beaten out by another gem, "Silence Is Golden", seems far closer to unlucky than criminal. Just my $0.02 - this is still a 5-globe quiz; well done.

	For a couple of the more recent ones I based it on the Twos being more well-known than the Ones - I was rather surprised that "Now You're Gone" managed to beat out the saturation-played "Rockstar", if hardly disappointed. Also, I do prefer "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (very disappointed I couldn't fit the line about "the clanging chimes of doom" into 5 seconds) to "Last Christmas", but the latter is the highest-selling No. 2 ever so I could hardly not include it.

	If this had not been full of 80s stuff already, I would doubtless have worked in INXS's thrilling "Need You Tonight" being blocked by Robin Beck's Coke advert jingle "The First Time". Yuck.
