| Turkey's geographical position is very unique. It's neither in the West, nor in the East. Adding the economical differences, it makes a complete World, all in one. In the rich neighborhoods of Istanbul, you can think that you're in US...and then just one kilometer to an Istanbul slum...wham, you're in Bangladesh! On the southern holiday resorts around Antalya province, it looks like Greece, Italy and Spain...then two provinces to the east, Adana and Hatay provinces give you a view of Lebanon (on peaceful times of it at least) or Syria. The Thrace region (the one you guys call 'European Turkey') looks like Balkans, but the Southeast (erroneously called 'Kurdistan' by you guys, there's officially no such region. I can't say for sure that there will or won't be in the near future) looks like Middle East to the core! Turkey even resembles South America in regard of love for football and the military coups that happened in the past. I can even call Turkey as a continent in its own right. My beloved wackjob of a country! |
