| Saves are not a very helpful statistic. The greatest relief pitcher in the league could end the season with 0 saves, if his team blows people out or if he doesn't happen to pitch the 9th inning. Or he could end up with 50, if his team tends to go up by 2-3. I've even read convincing arguments on why the idea of a dedicated closer is actually an awful strategy decision.
K's are, somehwat, but their impact is already factored into WAR. Along with a lot of other extremely important stuff. |
