Each clip is 10 seconds long, except for the first one, which I wish I just could play in it's entirety. I know "indie" might be debatable on some of these artists/bands, but I think all of them are pretty close. Let me know if you think any are definitely not labeled as indie. Have fun!

How are we supposed to type the accented o in Sigur Ros on a regular keyboard? You should just accept "Sigur Ros," with an unaccented o.

Very nice. I think I only got about 15 right, but on the bright side, I just found some new music.

Is there any way you could specify that you're looking for bands/artists, not songs? I lost a couple of minutes just trying to type in song titles!

For the most part, I think these bands can be called indie, but... Oasis?

@marpocky: Actually, "Champagne Supernova" was released when Oasis was still on an independent record label. On another note, this was a really good sound clip quiz. It's great because indie songs are always the ones used in commercials that I like, and after finishing this quiz I can finally download all those songs.

35 correct. Great quiz. Normally I'd be one of the first to jump to arms about how some of these bands aren't TECHNICALLY independent, blah blah blah, but this quiz is so well done and presented that I can't do anything except admire it. Oasis would be the biggest point of contention for me, but as @Saulmeister pointed out, apparently they actually were independent at the time? And thus is the fallacy of the term "indie." Great quiz though.

Oasis were on Creation* at the time, which was indeed independent. *well, technically EMI, but that's just nitpicking

Really well done. Nine of out of ten indie quizzes on here are like FOO FIGHTERS RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS SNOW PATROL and that just doesn't work. Surprised by how the results broke down, though.

...now I really feel old... :-(
I only got 7, and several of those not from identifying the band but from typing in any indie act I could think of.
A well deserved Editor's Choice, although I might have given it to you for either the URL alone or the avatar of a member of the 60's band that performed "Sooner Or Later" and "Midnight Confessions".

can you remove the "Mainstream fans: get out while you still can!!" thing? it's a bit condescending, as if people can't possibly enjoy both mainstream and indie music. i actually did pretty well on the quiz despite how "non-indie" my tastes are. of course, the meaning of "indie" is more and more blurred these days: on this quiz, we have a billboard alternative chart-topper, a uk top 10, and several songs by bands now distributed by majors.

Nice choice of the Peter Bjorn and John and Decemberists tracks, and I was stoked to see Hercules and Love Affair and Matt and Kim on here... it's nice to see a person with similar musical taste kicking around here. :) Not a TV on the Radio fan though? Midway through the quiz I started expecting one of their songs to come up. Otherwise, good job.

@xfanatic50: Thanks. As for TV on the Radio, I am a pretty big fan actually. I'm actually sort of confused how I left them off. Oh well, there are still plenty of bands left for a sequel!

Great selection! My only suggestion, if you're still up for modifying the audio track, is to do a little bit of volume equalizing--Yeasayer is about three times quieter than everything else, for example. Still recognizable, but it's a shame to have such a great song be so muted :)

Love the quiz! Quick question/comment: did you intend for Hercules and Love Affair to come up for just "Hercules"? I suppose most people who have gotten that far are probably going to get it anyway, but it caught me off guard.

Great quiz, a lot of my favorite bands here! 5 stars automatically for Tegan and Sara, but also with Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, Wolf Parade, Iron & Wine, Animal Collective, and about 20 others, makes it a certainty, now I want to play the second one!

Great quiz but... Arcade Fire's song being "My Body is a Cage"? I would have thought you would use "Wake Up" "Tunnels" "No Cars Go"

Fantastic quiz. Didn't do brilliant, 18, but this is a fine collection of music. Seen suggestions for The Temper Trap and MGMT.. come on guys, the term "indie" can be pretty loose, but not that much. Again, great job!

I definitely guessed The Strokes for the Albert Hammond Jr. solo song and was really confused because I thought it was telling me that song was Last Nite :P
