	I'm pretty sure that House of Angevin is considered the same thing as the House of Plantagenet (while both Lancaster and York, despite being technically part of the same dynasty, are considered separate). I'd really need someone from England to confirm that, though.

	@maniacalclown - that's how I learnt it at school in Merrie Olde England. Shameful that I only got 8/10 but just couldn't spell Plantagenet and I'm fairly sure my history teachers never mentioned Angevin.

	@maniacalclown: The House of Plantagenet reigned from 1154 to 1485 and is generally subdivided but there is disagreement about exactly how. Royal.gov.uk is the source for the quiz so, of course, has the subdivisions as they are here, with 1154-1216 being Plantagenets who were also Angevins, 1216-1399 being Plantagenets who were just Plantagenets and 1399-1485 being Plantagenets who were also other things. Some Wikipedia pages (such as Monarchy_of_England and House_of_Plantagenet) give 1154-1399 as Plantagenets who were also Angevins and no Plantagenets who were just Plantagenets; others (Angevin) say that the Angevins and Plantagenets are the same thing.

	Spelt Hanover wrong (put two Ns), typed Sax-Coburg as that's how they're commonly referred to. Can't believe I forgot York and Lancaster!

	Okay - a few issues. firstly, there's no such thing as the "House of Angevin". It would be the "House of Anjou" or "Angevin Dynasty". Secondly, as others have noted, the Angevins and the Plantagenets are the same - calling John an Angevin and his son Henry III a Plantagenet is just bizarre. Royal.gov.uk may divide it up that way, but it's kind of bizarre. Thirdly, Stephen was not a member of the House of Normandy. He was of the House of Blois - just like Henry II, his mother was of the House of Normandy and his father was not. Fourthly, the House of Saxe-Coburg was the House name from 1901 until 1917, when George V changed his name to Windsor.

	7/10. Should have paid more attention when I last did the monarchs quiz. Frenchified the spelling to Cobourg (there is a town in Ontario with that spelling which I guess threw me off). Just for completeness (and every Sporcle fan loves completeness), perhaps Lady Jane Grey should be added to the Royals column (since she is in the other quiz) (Or does this column come from Royal.Gov.Uk ?)

	Only 2/8, but this has piqued my interest. Only knew current because its that same name as the Canadian city across the river from Detroit where I grew up, and Tudor because of the show on Showtime. But as a 3rd Generation Irish-German mutt American I'm impressed I knew any. Plus now I've got something new I can learn about.

	As a cynical brit I am not too sure about anything.gov.uk I would have suggested that Victoria, when she married Albert, changed her name to Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and son Edward only invented Windsor (Windsor Castle is their main residence) under increasingly anti-German feelings coming up to and/or during the first world war (starting in 1914 over here). After all, the German Kaiser was his cousin. However, the date of 1910 seems a bit early to me, no war on the horizon then, but it does smack of being a nice convenient date to prevent people asking too many questions. The Royal family are still often referred to disparagingly as Germans, we do not forget easily over here.

No, royal.gov.uk does not have the final word when they are incorrect or nonsensical. The webmaster of royal.gov.uk certainly does not have any particularly greater authority than anybody else on the subject.

	@Patrick: No! royal.gov.uk has no more authority over the names of past British kings than whitehouse.gov has over the names of past American presidents. They, presumably, asked a historian, who gave his or her opinion; other historians have other opinions. (Granted, all reasonable historians appear to agree on the names of the US presidents.)

	@onetheta: The family name was changed to Windsor only in 1917. But George V, the first Windsor king was crowned in 1910, even though he wasn't a member of the house of Windsor at that time. :-)

	To all the nay-sayers - I agree. I'm reasonably sure that "House of Angevin" wasn't in my submitted quiz - I had "Angevin" and "Anjou" as answers bringing up "House of Plantagenet." I did NOT use royal.gov as my source; I used a list of "the 9 royal houses of England..." (N.B. I don't even think royal.gov lists "House of Anjou" - it merely subsets "The Angevins" from "The Plantagenets," which implies the separation.) I wasn't overly happy with placing Stephen with the House of Normandy - but I also didn't think him deserving of a separate house (not least because of the list of nine). Saxe-Coburg-Gothe did indeed last until 1917, but the dates were for the individuals, as DavidR points out. However, I think it might be wise to shift the date to the houses rather than the individuals (even if it could be confusing).

	I suppose the logic could be that once John had lost Anjou, along with most of the continental empire, they weren't really Angevin anymore... A pretty flimsy explanation, but an explanation nonetheless.

	8/10 The city in PA where I go to school is called Lancaster, the symbol of which is the red rose. Its biggest rival is the neighboring town of York, PA, which represents itself with the white rose. I thank both of them for reminding me of two answers.

	I was also wondering why Wessex isn't one of the royal houses in the quiz? They unified England and were the only Anglo-Saxon dynasty over the whole country, if I'm not mistaken...
