| What is a "Normal" country status? What does country status even mean? Israel celebrated their 60th anniversary as a sovereign state last year -- longer than Bahrain, longer than Kuwait, longer than Cyprus, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and parts of Yemen. There are certainly people who object to Israel's existence--who question Israel's right to exist--but they are a small, curmudgeonly, and admittedly nettlesome minority in the world. But love 'em or hate 'em, they are by all objective standards a full-fledged sovereign nation, with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities thereto appertaining. At the moment, the same cannot be said of Palestine or Kurdistan. |
