you'd think washington and oregon would be on here, but a lot of the cities in the western parts of those states average ten inches of rain less than new york city. the cascades also create a rain shadow for the eastern parts

yep… there are huge deserts in eastern WA! and the coastal parts are kind of like the UK in my experience: it doesn’t rain heavily terribly often, it just drizzles continually and is damp all the bloody time!

@newenglander: Rain in the NW is a myth. We just tell everyone that it rains to keep the Californians out.

Now I know why Florida is called the Sunshine State. So much for me being a rainbird from Washington when I visit the Southeast or East Coast.
