2001 SP CHW and 2006 SP CIN first names are spelled wrong. It might also help to write LA as LAD, since the Angels' nickname also changes midway and it might get confusing. Great quiz!

Dice-K's best was 2008, when he was 12th in the majors with a 5.2 WAR. Jeter's best was 2009, when he as 10th overall, but Hanley was better and there were two better 2Bs. I'm betting Jeter's defense weighs him down.

I suppose I didn't mention that this is entirely by WAR, specifically the version on bBaseball Reference. I'll add that in the description.

His name always appears that way in baseball quizzes. It's sort of an inside joke. Which are always funny when explained.

This quiz has been taken 3,094 times as of this writing, and 70% got all 100 answers correct. That seems... unlikely.

only 6.6% of people guessed Gabe White, yet 70% of quiz takers got every answer correct?

Results are weird indeed. The only thing I can think of was that the relief pitchers were added after this quiz had already been taken a number of times, and all the people who got a perfect (42% right now, despite 6% for Gabe White) were from before this addition.

I don't know what's up with the results. I didn't add any players after the quiz had been taken a number of times. Something must be wrong in Sporcle's stat compliation.

This is why WAR is an irrelevant statistic, can't stand people who actually use this to evaluate a player.

WAR is awful. no chance oswalt was better than peavy in '07. and if franklin gutierrez was the best CF in '09 then they need to tinker the formula to evaluate this arbitrary statistic

In case of a tie, can you display both players, maybe last names like: Mauer/McCann?

9 of the people on his list were correctly guessed by less than a third of people playing. 15 of the people on the list were correctly guessed by less than half the people playing. 25 of the people playing were correctly guessed by less than two-thirds of the people playing. But ...... 30% of people got a perfect score? 44% of people got 90+? Make any sense to you?

I got 73 correct and ended up in the 28th percentile despite not knowing one person in my peer group who knows anywhere near as much about baseball as I do. Yep, nobody cheats on Sporcle.

I legitimately got 91 correct aside from having to look up how to spell Gutierrez, and I got in the 74th percentile. There's no way 1 in 4 people know more than that. As everyone else has stated, there's obviously something wrong with the results.

I got 92 without cheating, all the guys I forgot were on the far right, the most guessed one being Granderson. I find it hard to believe about 1/4 of people did better.

@fnurt: It's not out of the question. The only "impossible" answer has a fairly common name. The rest you can get just by knowing who played what position for whom.

Actually, I figured out the problem -- when I made the quiz, there were five starting pitchers. When Sporcle published it, they removed most of the starters. But the stats were not revised accordingly, so plenty of people got more answers right in the past than there are answers now.

That was a surprise for me too. He definitely makes the 1990s one. But his defense was bad enough to knock his WAR down below others in the years when his offense wasn't otherworldly.
