| @dylan_fox44: I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to agree with the others. I don't think the equation is as easy as Sol = Apollo. The Romans worshiped Apollo as Apollo and that's about it. Perhaps Phoebus would be another option, but that's just coming from Greek too. Let me put it this way too: From a Roman perspective, especially in the Roman empire, Sol would be simply "The Sun" who is a fine deity to worship. For me, when I see a god Sol, I immediately think of Sol Invictus, or even perhaps El-Gabal, in his Elagabalan change into a sun god. I think Sol is too charged a name to simply attribute to Apollo. In addition, if it's by Latin name and not Roman name, there are some more changes: Neptunus for Neptune, Iuno for Juno, Iuppiter for Jupiter, Volcanus for Vulcan, and Mercurius should be on here somewhere. |
