...or something like an asterisk would be appropriately helpful to jog our thinking.

For some reason i've always considered Turkey as outside of the Middle East. I guess maybe that whole EU thing. Great quiz either way

Turkey's not in the EU. They just really want to be. It is in NATO, however.

There are a few I wouldn't have thought were Middle East (e.g. Turkey, Egypt) , but good quiz.

Some people consider Egypt in the middle east, while others dont. I followed the wikipedia page and put Egypt there. Also I know the Palestinian Authority is not a country, thats why I put the asterisk at the top that says "Not formally recognised as a country."

Rom, please learn your fractions better before you become hyper-critical. Both Egypt and Turkey occupy land that is properly defined as being in the Middle East. Egypt possesses the Sinai Penninsula, which is in Asia, not Africa. Only 3% of Turkey is in Europe.

More importantly, the quiz isn't "Southwest Asia." It's "Middle East," which is a cultural label as much as a geographic label. In much the same way, I challenge you to find ten people who agree on which US states are in the Midwest.
