[SC1]
Neo's computer: Knock Knock, Neo.
(There is an actual knock at the door)
[SC1]
Choi: It's Choi.
[SC1]
Choi: I know. It's her fault.
[SC1]
Choi: Two grand.
Neo: Hold on.
(Neo gets the disc for Choi.)
Choi: Hallelujah. You're my savior, man. My own personal Jesus Christ.
[SC1]
Choi: Yeah, I know. This never happened, you don't exist.
Neo: Right.
Choi: Something wrong, man? You look a little whiter than usual.
[SC1]
Choi: All the time. It's called mescaline. It's the only way to fly. Hey, it sounds to me like you just need to unplug, man. You know? Get some R&R? What do you think, Du Jour? Should we take him with us?
Du Jour: …Definitely.
[SC1]
Du Jour: Come on…it'll be fun. I promise.
(Neo notices her tattoo)
[SC2]
(At the club. Trinity approaches Neo.)
Trinity: Hello, Neo.
[SC2]
Trinity: I know a lot about you.
[SC2]
Trinity: My name is Trinity.
[SC2]
Trinity: That was a long time ago.
Neo: Jesus…
Trinity: What?
[SC2]
Trinity: Most guys do.
[SC2]
Trinity: All I can tell you is that you are in danger. I brought you here to warn you.
[SC2]
Trinity: They're watching you, Neo.
[SC2]
Trinity: Please just listen. I know why you're here, Neo. I know what you've been doing. I know why you hardly sleep, why you live alone, and why night after night you sit at your computer. You're looking for him. I know because I was once looking for the same thing. And when he found me, he told me I wasn't really looking for him. I was looking for an answer. It's the question that drives us. It's the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.
Trinity: The answer is out there, Neo. It's looking for you. And it will find you, if you want it to.
[SC3]
(The next day: Neo in his boss's office.)
Neo's Boss: ...thus, if an employee has a problem, the company has a problem. The time has come to make a choice, Mr. Anderson. Either you choose to be at your desk on time from this day forth, or you choose to find yourself another job. Do I make myself clear?
[SC3]
(Neo gets a Fedex envelope with a cell phone inside. It rings. Surprised, he answers it.)
[SC3]
Voice: Hello, Neo. You know who this is?
[SC3]
Morpheus: Yes. I've been looking for you, Neo. I don't know if you're ready to see what I want to show you, but unfortunately you and I have run out of time. They're coming for you Neo and I don't know what they're going to do.
[SC3]
Morpheus: Stand up and see for yourself.
[SC3]
Morpheus: Yes…now. Do it slowly.
(Neo looks; sees)
Neo: Oh, ****!
Morpheus: Yes.
Morpheus: I don't know but if you don't want to find out I suggest you get out of there.
(Neo eventually fails at this and ends up in the hands of the agents. Agent Smith interrogates Neo and asks for his help in apprehending Morpheus.)
[SC4]
Agent Smith: ...My colleagues think that I am wasting my time with you, but I believe you want to do the right thing. That's why I am willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. And all that we're asking in return is your cooperation in bringing a known terrorist to justice.
[SC4]
(Neo gives the finger)
[SC4]
Agent Smith: Oh, Mr. Anderson. You disappoint me.
[SC4]
Agent Smith: Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a phone call…if you're unable to speak?
(Bad stuff happens. Neo wakes up in his bed. The phone rings--he picks it up.)
Morpheus: This line is tapped, so I must be brief. They got to you first but they underestimated how important you are. If they knew what I know, you would probably be dead.
[SC4]
Morpheus: You are The One, Neo. You may have spent the last few years looking for me but I have spent my entire life looking for you. Now, do you still want to meet?
Morpheus: Then go to the Adams Street Bridge.
[SC5]
(Neo is picked up in a car by Trinity)
Trinity: Get in.
(As soon as he's in the car, Switch pulls a gun on him.)
[SC5]
Trinity: It's necessary, Neo. For our protection.
[SC5]
Trinity: From you.
Switch: Take off your shirt.
[SC5]
Switch: Stop the car.
(Car stops)
Listen to me, Coppertop. We don't have time for twenty questions. Right now there's only one rule: our way…or the highway.
(Neo considers.)
[SC5]
(Neo opens the car door to get out. Trinity stops him.)
Trinity: Please, Neo. You have to trust me.
[SC5]
Trinity: Because you have been down there, Neo. You know that road. You know exactly where it ends. And I know that's not where you wanna be.
(Neo relents and gets back in the car. Trinity pulls out a big scary-looking mechanical contraption.)
Lie back, lift up your shirt.
[SC5]
Trinity: We think you're bugged. Try and relax.
(She uses the gizmo to dig around inside Neo and eventually sucks out the tracer bug the agents had put in)
(No one answers that question, since it's probably rhetorical. And now that they're finished with that, Neo is taken to meet Morpheus.)
[SC6]
Morpheus: At last. Welcome, Neo. As you no doubt have guessed, I am Morpheus.
[SC6]
Morpheus: No. The honor is mine. Please, come sit. I imagine that right now you're feeling a bit like Alice, tumbling down the rabbit hole?
[SC6]
Morpheus: I can see it in your eyes. You have the look of a man who accepts what he sees, because he is expecting to wake up. Ironically, this is not far from the truth. Do you believe in fate, Neo?
[SC6]
Morpheus: Why not?
[SC6]
Morpheus: I know exactly what you mean. Let me tell you why you're here. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it--you've felt it your entire life. That there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there...like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that has brought you to me. You do know what I'm talking about?
[SC6]
Morpheus: Do you want to know what it is?
(Neo nods)
Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it--when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
[SC6]
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage; born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. Unfortunately, no one can be 'told' what The Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.
(Morpheus pulls out the pills)
This is your last chance. After this there is no turning back. You take the blue pill--the story ends. You wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill--you stay in Wonderland. And I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.
(Neo reaches for a pill)
Remember: all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more.
