This is brilliant. Please accept "Crimea" (not just "Crimean") - thanks.

Zouaves are not a great choice for the American Civil War, especially since the uniform style comes from French-Algerian troops that served in the Crimean War.

These toys are part of the Ideological State Apparatuses which encourage children to support war at an early age by making them seem 'normal' or even 'fun'. The truth is that the state needs men to go and die in imperialist wars so rich people can get richer. I know I'm going to get voted down for saying this but children should not be brainwashed by this jingoistic narcissism. This is what happened in Britain in the late nineteenth century when the ruling class saw their power threatened by rival empires; the result was working-class lads marching through the mud and barbed wire of the Somme into machine gunfire, having been told that war was all a game. Tragic.

Where to start? The Trojan War never happened. What you were thinking of was the Greco-Persian War. Nobody in the American Civil War wore red, nor did anybody have a black and red flag. Also, nobody, I repeat nobody in WWI carried a man-portable light machine gun.

I was convinced the cuddly smiling chaps in the top row were members of Rommel's Afrika Korps... which made me a little concerned...
