This would be more challenging if there were cities mixed in that are not capitals at all. I mean, I know Montgomery is in Alabama but if Montgomery, Birmingham and Mobile were all choices I might have a hard time picking which one is the capital.

@moviegoer74: Your feedback is always appreciated. This is just a simple matching quiz, and to anyone who knows their capitals, it should be fairly easy. For those who are a little hazy on some of them (like myself), it might be a bit of a challenge. But, in any case, I wanted to keep it as basic as possible. What you're describing sounds like a great idea, and I encourage you to make a quiz like that.

I don't know if this is a possibility, but i would suggest randomizing the states instead of going in alphabetical order.

I clicked on Albany, clearly the capital of NY, and the quiz ends. Ridiculous.

@jshorne- The quiz is not about which cities are capitals, it's about which city is the capital of the state that appears in the top box. Obviously you must have missed the state.

@
TripleA
: There aren't any errors. This is not a quiz where you click any city that's a capital (
ALL
the cities listed are state capitals.) The state appears in the giant box at the top and you have to click the capital for each state that comes up. Please at least skim the other comments (including the one directly above yours) before you post.

@moviegoer74: I had the identical thought. When Alabama came up first, I was expecting to see the three major cities in the mix (Birmingham, Mobile, Montgomery). I expected NYC and Chicago would be on there to trip ppl up as well. That would make for more interesting results. Still, clickable Sporcle is my new favorite thing :)

I'm new to this clickable format: do all of these quizzes have to end once you get a wrong answer? I'd appreciate being able to continue the quiz because I definitely know more capitals than 17 of them (I hadn't even gotten to my home state yet before I clicked the wrong one, haha)

Agree. Tallahassee is the capital of FL. Should be a layup, but maybe people think it was Miami.

@rightanswer: Not all quizzes in the new "clickable" format are set to end upon clicking a right answer; it's just an option.

Not being from the U.S., I always got the capitals of both Dakotas mixed up. Now I apply this mnemonic rule: Bismarck is a German name, Pierre is a French one. On the average, Germany is north of France. So Bismarck is in ND, Pierre is in SD. If this can be useful to someone, well, just take it.

I was also surprised to see how low the percentages were. I'm guessing that is due to the international popularity of this site.

This is a quiz where I think it would be very interesting to see a distribution of how much time it took all the folks who got 50. I doubt I was the quickest, it's been a while since I knew these well enough to rattle them off quickly, but I will be there are plenty who can finish in less than 2 min.

Seconded on the decoy answers. and JLKeip, less than 2 minutes seems like a stretch, but I've always thought it would be neat to have a time distribution for those who got them all right on every quiz. Of course, you'd have to control for whether it was their first time taking the quiz, and even then there are ways to game the system. Maybe we're better off without it.

Good quiz. Might have been a bit better with ten or so decoy answers to trip you up. Throw in a Chicago or New Orleans.

Love the quiz, had to memorize them myself at an early. Agreed on mixing in decoys...the challenge was floating around the screen finding the answer, a shorter time would heighten the anxiety...and please a world capitals one, the endurance alone would be a challenge!

@smart_guy39, @canda_please_eh: Yep, "Salem in Oregon, from there we join Little Rock in Arkansas, Iowa's got Des Moines, Sacramento, California, Oklahoma and its City, Charleston, West Virginia, and Nevada: Carson City." Always.
