	Whoa, that's weird. Right after I posted that I noticed that Sporcle published a "Hail" quiz yesterday. http://www.sporcle.com/games/smoggy14/hail-sizes I knew it. This ladder being published has nothing to do with the GOP nomination, it's all just part of Sporcle's "Hail Week".

	I am well aware that hail is frozen water, but that doesn't make it rain. Merriam Webster defines rain as 1) "water falling in drops condensed from vapor in the atmosphere," 2) "the descent of this water" or 3) "water that has fallen as rain." Likewise, "water" is "the LIQUID that descends from the clouds as rain, forms streams, lakes and seas, and is a major constituent of all living matter . . . ." Although hail is clearly identical in chemical composition to rain, it is not rain because it is not a liquid. No one would say "oh, it's raining" during a hailstorm.

	Let me see now: relatively easy if you remove Trump's topper. PAWS > PAÍS > PAIN > CAIN > COIN > COIL > FOIL > FAIL > PAIL > PAUL but if you really want to keep your hair, you could go: PAWS > PAWN (or PAÍS) > PAIN > CAIN > COIN > COIL > FOIL > FAIL > FAIR > HAIR > HAIL > HAUL > PAUL Now the challenge is to add some earlier candidates such as T-PAW (Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota) and THAD (Rep. Thaddeus McCotter of Michigan). Actually you can easily link that pair, TPAW > THAW > THAD, it's just linking them to the rest. An incomplete string, for example, might be: TPAW > THAW > THAD > CHAD > CHAN (or CHID) > CHIN > COIN > CAIN > ???

	ari18: It's really not that serious. All I did was google "hail rain" and that definition ("hail is a large frozen raindrop") was the first thing to come up. But as you clearly know more on the subject the clue was changed shortly after your comment. I think we can all agree on "precipitation", yeah? @shakescene: Dude, why don't you make some word ladders? You clearly have a knack for them. They're always looking for good word ladders here, as you know.(As for this one--it is what it is, and it ain't gonna change, but your suggestions are great.)
