To make things easier, the game is broken up into "scenes". So if the *scene* is labeled 'SC1', for example, you only need to choose from the *answers* that are labeled 'SC1'. If you get one wrong, don't try to correct it. Just continue down the rabbit hole and respond to whatever comes next.
[SC1] (Neo wakes up outside The Matrix. He hears Morpheus and Trinity, standing over him.) Morpheus: We've done it, Trinity. We've found him. Trinity: I hope you're right. Morpheus: You don't have to hope. I know it.
[SC1] Morpheus: Far from it. (Neo passes out again, then wakes up with lots of pins and wires sticking out of him. Dozer and Morpheus are examining him.) Dozer: He still needs a lot of work.
[SC1] Morpheus: Your muscles have atrophied; we're rebuilding them.
[SC1] Morpheus: You've never used them before. Rest, Neo. The answers are coming. (There's another brief 'recovery montage'. Neo wakes up once again, now unaccompanied. He feels a bolt in the back of his head. Something had been plugged in there, but not anymore. The door suddenly opens and Morpheus steps in.)
[SC1] Morpheus: More important than 'what'…is 'when'.
Morpheus: You believe it's the year 1999, when in fact it's closer to 2199. I can't tell you exactly what year it is…because we honestly don't know. There's nothing I can say that will explain it for you, Neo. Come…see for yourself. [SC2] (Morpheus takes Neo on a tour of his ship The Nebuchadnezzar and introduces him to everyone. He then has Trinity put him in a chair and, warning that this will feel 'a little weird', shoves a cord into the back of his head. Suddenly Neo has a full head of hair and is standing on a white, featureless landscape. Morpheus is there.) This...is The Construct. It's our loading program. It can load anything from clothing to equipment, weapons, training simulations--anything we need.
[SC2] Morpheus: Is it really so hard to believe? Your clothes are different, the plugs in your arm and head are gone. Your hair has changed. Your appearance now is what we call 'residual self-image.' It is the mental projection of your digital self. (They are standing near two leather chairs. Neo feels one of them.)
[SC2] Morpheus: What is 'real'? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. (Morpheus picks up a remote control and clicks at the old-fashioned TV in front of the leather chairs.) This...is the world that you know. (Morpheus explains absolutely everything; how they're at war with an artificial intelligence after the apocalypse, how that intelligence generates a dream world for human beings in order to drain them of their 'bioelectricity', how they then liquefy the dead and feed them intravenously to the living--bunch of heavy stuff. He clicks off the TV. Neo is horrified.) What is The Matrix? Control. The Matrix is a computer-generated dream world built to keep us under control in order to change a human being to this. (Morpheus holds up a D-battery.)
[SC2] Morpheus: I didn't say it would be easy, Neo. I just said it would be the truth.
[SC2] (Neo is back on the ship. Trinity unhooks his brain-cord and he leaps out of the chair. He rants a bit, pukes on the floor and then passes out. He wakes up back in his quarters. He immediately senses that Morpheus is sitting behind him.)
[SC2] Morpheus: No. But if you could, would you really want to? I feel I owe you an apology. We have a rule: we never free a mind once it reaches a certain age. It's dangerous. The mind has trouble letting go. I've seen it before and I'm sorry. I did what I did because...I had to. (Morpheus explains the whole concept of 'The One' and how he believes Neo is 'The One'. Neo appears to be somewhat neutral about this. Finally, Morpheus concludes with..) Get some rest. You're going to need it.
Morpheus: Your training. [SC3] (The next day. Tank enters Neo's quarters.) Tank: Morning. Did you sleep? (Neo shakes his head.) You will tonight. I guarantee it. I'm Tank. I'll be your Operator. (Neo shakes his hand and notices something)
[SC3] Tank: Holes? Nope. Me and my brother Dozer are both 100% pure old-fashioned homegrown human born free right here, in the real world. Genuine child of Zion.
[SC3] Tank: If the war was over tomorrow, Zion's where the party would be.
[SC3] Tank: The last human city. The only place we have left.
[SC3] Tank: Underground--near the Earth's core, where it's still warm. You live long enough you might even see it. (Tank puts Neo in the chair and says they're going to skip the 'boring s***' and go straight to 'combat training'. He puts in the disk and Neo watches it load onto the monitor.)
[SC3] (Tank winks, punches a few buttons, and Neo shakes violently as everything he ever needed to know about Ju Jitsu is instantly jammed into his brain.)
[SC3] Tank: Hey Mikey, I think he likes it! You want some more?
[SC4] (There's a brief montage as Neo absorbs all kinds of combat training. Morpheus comes up behind Tank.) Morpheus: How is he? Tank: Ten hours straight. He's a machine. (Morpheus walks up to Neo. Neo opens his eyes and looks at Morpheus.)
[SC4] Morpheus: Show me. (Suddenly they're both in a dojo.) This is a sparring program, similar to the programmed reality of The Matrix. It has the same basic rules--rules like gravity. What you must learn is that these rules are no different than the rules of a computer system. Some of them can be bent. Others can be broken. Understand? (Neo nods) Then hit me. If you can. (They fight. The whole crew gets excited about it. Morpheus defeats Neo.) How did I beat you?
[SC4] Morpheus: Do you believe that my being stronger or faster has anything to do with my muscles in this place? You think that's air you're breathing? (Neo does not reply.) Again. (They fight again) Come on! Stop trying to hit me and hit me! (Neo finally gets the better of Morpheus.)
[SC4] Morpheus: I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door--you're the one who has to walk through. (Morpheus asks Tank to load the 'Jump Program' and suddenly Neo and Morpheus are on top of a skyscraper in a large city.) You have to let it all go, Neo. Fear, doubt, disbelief. Free-your-mind. (Morpheus nimbly leaps off of the roof and onto the roof a neighboring building, which is hundreds of feet away. Neo is taken aback.)
[SC4] (Neo walks up and peers over the ledge.)
[SC4] (Neo psyches himself up and leaps off the roof. He falls screaming into the pavement below. Everyone is less enthusiastic when Morpheus and Neo are back on the ship, being unplugged. Neo puts two fingers inside his lip and notices that his mouth is bleeding.)
[SC4] Morpheus: Your mind makes it real.
Morpheus: The body cannot live without the mind. [SC5] (Later on, Morpheus and Neo are walking through a crowded street. Morpheus is explaining how even the other humans can be their enemy.) Morpheus: …You have to understand most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it. (Neo spots a beautiful woman in a red dress, who looks back at him seductively.) Were you listening to me, Neo? (Morpheus turns around.) Or were you looking at the woman in the red dress?
[SC5] Morpheus: Look again. (Neo turns and sees an agent pointing a gun in his face.) Freeze it. (Everything around them freezes in place.)
[SC5] Morpheus: No. It's another training program designed to teach you one thing: If you are not one of us, you are one of them.
[SC5] Morpheus: Sentient programs. They can move in and out of any software still hardwired to their system. That means anyone we haven't unplugged is potentially an agent. Inside The Matrix, they are everyone, and they are no one. We have survived by hiding from them, by running from them. But they are the gatekeepers: They are guarding all the doors, they are holding all the keys, which means that sooner or later, someone is going to have to fight them.
[SC5] Morpheus: I won't lie to you, Neo. Every single man or woman who has stood their ground, everyone who has fought an agent has died. But where they have failed, you will succeed.
[SC5] Morpheus: I've seen an agent punch through a concrete wall. Men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed is still based in a world that is built on rules. Because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.
Morpheus: No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready…you won't have to. [SC6] (Later on, probably late at night, Cypher is watching monitors and pushing buttons when Neo walks up beside him.) Cypher: WHOA! Neo. You scared the bejesus out of me.
[SC6] Cypher: It's okay. (Neo looks at the monitors)
[SC6] Cypher: The Matrix? Yeah.
[SC6] Cypher: Well, you have to. The image translators work for the construct program, but there's way too much information to decode The Matrix. You get used to it. I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead… (Cypher looks around mischievously) Hey, you, uh...you wanna drink?
[SC6] (Cypher pours him something out a big metal jug.) Cypher: You know, uh, I know what you're thinking. 'Cuz right now I'm thinking the same thing. In fact I've been thinking it ever since I got here. 'Why-oh-why didn't I take the BLUE pill?' (Neo smiles and takes a drink--which causes him to choke and cough. Cypher makes a joke about the stuff and then asks if Neo was told why he's here. Neo nods thoughtfully.) ...So you're here to save the world. What do you say to something like that? Little piece of advice: You see an agent, you do what we do. Run. Run your ass off.
Cypher: Sweet dreams. [SC7] (Later, Morpheus decides to take Neo to see The Oracle and so they all go back into The Matrix. Cypher dials a number on his phone and drops it into a trash can. Morpheus and Trinity ride with Neo to see The Oracle. Neo rides in the back of the car with Trinity. He looks out the window.) Neo: God... Trinity: What?
[SC7] (Trinity hints at a smile.) Neo: I have these memories of my life. None of them happened. What does that mean? Trinity: That The Matrix cannot tell you who you are.
[SC7] Trinity: That's different.
[SC7] Trinity: Yes.
[SC7] Trinity: She told me…
Morpheus: We're here. Neo, come with me. [SC8] (Morpheus and Neo go into a dilapidated building and get onto an elevator.)
[SC8] Morpheus: Yes. She's very old, she's been with us since the beginning.
[SC8] Morpheus: Of the resistance.
[SC8] Morpheus: She would say she knows enough.
[SC8] Morpheus: Try not to think of it in terms of right and wrong. She is a guide, Neo. She can help you to find your path.
[SC8] Morpheus: Yes.
[SC8] (Morpheus smiles) Morpheus: That I would find the one. (They have arrived. They get off the elevator and go into an apartment. Neo sits in a waiting room with 'the other potentials': mostly children doing things like floating alphabet blocks in the air. He notices a little boy with a pile of bent spoons. The boy picks up a spoon and looks at it. It bends around back and forth. He offers it to Neo, who takes it and stares at it intently.) Spoon Boy: Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth.
[SC8] Spoon Boy: There is no spoon.
[SC8] Spoon Boy: Then you'll see that it is not the spoon that bends; it is only yourself.
