Great quiz. As a child of the 80s, I loved it. Lot of memories here. And I have to commend you on finding one I wasn't familiar with, with TranZor Z; had to look that one up after. (I also blanked on MASK, but that was just a mental glitch.)

Holy cow, The Snorks. That is a show I have not seen or thought about in a long time. So long that I forgot its name. Thanks for the fun quiz, druhutch!

Kept typing Cities of Gold but left off the "Mysterious". Now that was a great show. It really was. A great, great show.(sigh..)

wow - that was awesome.

Even though I was born in 1990, many of these shows still played a predominant role in my childhood... including some that I'd much rather have stayed in the decade which produced them. Major props for including Bananaman and David the Gnome!
Aug 15th, 2012 at 03:18 GMT
For any that are curious, these are the shows I also wanted to include but failed to make the final cut:
Fists of the North Star
Alf [the animated one]
Denver, the Last Dinosaur
Fraggle Rock [the animated one]
Captain N: The Game Master
Super Mario Bros. Super Show
The last two were too much on the 80s/90s cusp. And I'm pretty sure there were others I'm forgetting. Additionally, the video that I've now linked up top was very helpful in reminding me of my favorite '80s cartoons.

Awesome quiz! I was just happy that I'm not the only one who remembers Thundarr. Had one of the best openings I remember from my childhood.

I'm probably a bit too young for a lot of these so I didn't do very well but the 80s really was a golden age for kids TV. I guess Count Duckula never made it to the States if it wasn't even on the backup list. That was a great show.
Aug 17th, 2012 at 03:47 GMT
@baz: Thanks for the EP. And
I totally watched Count Duckula. According to IMDB it's run was 1988 - 1993 which would put it on the cusp but it'd still qualify for the 90s edition, if I were to make one.

My god, there were some freaky looking cartoons in the 80's!
Aug 19th, 2012 at 21:19 GMT
The golden age of cartoons, imo. Probably has a lot to do with watching them incessantly as a child. Some other great ones from that era: Shirt Tales, Get a Long Gang, Camp Candy, Galaxy High, Pound Puppies, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, and a whole bunch of other toys I had and can't remember their names.

Anyone else remember The Raccoons?
Aug 23rd, 2012 at 00:35 GMT
It's already been mentioned above by @rychu_supadude but I'm glad David the Gnome made the cut if only for reminding me of that show. Used to watch that on Nick. I also love seeing the Thundercats (obviously)

I used to like watching a show called "Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea. Pretty sure it was in the late 80s. Anyone else heard of it? This was in Australia.

@drowningbarbie: Here in the US, I remember it airing on Nickelodeon in the mid-80s.

I might just have to hunt down some of these shows and revisit my childhood. I miss these cartoons.

Sometimes, some crimes go slipping through the cracks but these two gumshoes, are picking up the slack there's no case too big, no case to small, if you need help just call ch ch ch Chip and Dale's rescue rangers. My age during the 80's 1-10. this quiz was right up my alley.

Mysterious Cities of Gold was an amazing show!
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:16 GMT
Love this quiz! It brought back so many memories. I can't believe I forgot about Punky Brewster! Does anyone remember Fraggle Rock? (I know it's not a cartoon)
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:21 GMT
15 of the 17 I missed I can't remember even hearing of them. Apparently I was older in the 80s than I thought.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:23 GMT
Duck Tales was 80s? Damn, I'm old.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:25 GMT
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:28 GMT
@TrishF: Actually, there was a Fraggle Rock cartoon for a short while.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:32 GMT
Good quiz. I haven't seen, or heard anybody talk about Thundar the Barbarian in 30 years. That's probably why I didn't remember it.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:32 GMT
@StrobesAU: There was? Perhaps that is what I'm thinking of, then. It's a rather hazy memory (I was 8 in 1989). :)
Oct 10th, 2012 at 04:56 GMT
Really brings back childhood memories. Really glad to see Mysterious Cities of Gold on the quiz. I loved that show.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 05:02 GMT
Would love to have seen "The Littles". What a creepy concept.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 05:30 GMT
I thought I was pleased when I saw DangerMouse. That was nothing compared to the stupid grin I'm currently wearing as a result of Bananaman's inclusion. Bananaman is awesome! Excuse me, I have some nostalgic YouTubing to do now...
Oct 10th, 2012 at 05:47 GMT
Gummi Bears was my favorite show in kindergarten. I taped it every day.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 05:51 GMT
Wow, I didn't think anyone remembered "Dinosaucers"...
Oct 10th, 2012 at 06:05 GMT
Happy/amazed that I'm not the only person that remembered The Centurions.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 07:30 GMT
Holy nostalgia batman! I was so annoyed that I couldn't remember the name of The Mysterious Cities of Gold. I kept thinking it was Lost Cities of Gold. I loved watching that show. I also had to catch David the Gnome every time it was on.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 07:38 GMT
I hate to be "that guy" but I guessed Mazinger Z, the original name, first for Tranzor Z.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 07:55 GMT
Wasn't ninja turtles the film and hero turtles the cartoon? Granted though I think the modern cartoon is ninja turtles. Smashing quiz though!

I now have a medley of anthems in my head, it’s a bit annoying as time appears to have deleted most of the lyrics (I also don’t want to know if any are wrong, they’ve been fine in my head for the last 30 years!)
Heathcliff, Heathcliff no-one should terrorise the neighbourhood, arrrr la la la la something something something cities of gold dun dur dur dun condor in flight holds the secret holds the key heroes in a half shell turtle power Eric is bananaman dangermouse der ne der ne der ne der ne ner ner snork along and join the happy song.
Thanks DruHutch (although not for making me realise how old I am)

Mentioning My Little Pony on this quiz makes it 20% cooler.
Oct 10th, 2012 at 10:29 GMT
I thought dennis the menace was from the beano ran about with a dog called gnasher and looked nothing like that character
Oct 10th, 2012 at 10:44 GMT
I'm French and it was difficult to have the name of Goldorak (Tranzor Z) and the Bizkitts (Gummi Bears). But proud to see some French animations in that quizz. A good quizz !
Oct 10th, 2012 at 11:12 GMT
Where are all the Hanna Barbera cartoons? Captain Caveman, Wacky Racers, Laff-a-lympics, etc? Those are the ones I watched all through the 80s
