Good idea, I bet you can also include some more distant movies. Some of the countries are too easy to define by the backgrounds (like 28 days later).
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 05:09 GMT
A couple of easy ones don't hurt, IMHO. On the other hand, I wonder if these should be forced-order, so that people don't just type in every country they can think of in six minutes.
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 07:51 GMT
Love the quiz and idea. Although some don't like forced answer I have to kinda agree with Tahnan here though. Someone could do quite well without having to ever look at a picture.
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 10:25 GMT
Cutting the time a little might be preferable to making it forced order. Unless the pictures will show up beside the answer box (don't know if dru can do that or if it has to be done by an admin after publishing).
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 16:47 GMT
I'll try cutting off a minute. I don't mind a few blind stabs, and I really think forced order might make it too hard. I know a lot of people on this site can type all 150-whatever countries out in just a few minutes, but not
can do that. And if your enjoyment of this quiz comes from sitting there and typing every country you know without even looking at the pictures, you're probably playing the wrong quiz but I say go for it.

What the world needs is a good romantic comedy set in Kyrgyzstan. Come on, Spielberg!

Why are Doctor Zhivago and Butch Cassidy in b&w?

Forced order isn't necessary. As druhutch said, you're probably playing the wrong quiz. I got all but the only one I didn't know (i.e. - recognise) was "Romeo And Juliet" so after getting the 19, I did some random guessing and hit upon the right one.
Jul 3rd, 2012 at 23:05 GMT
I liked the quiz but part of the fun is seeing how you measure up against others on a particular trivia topic. Unless it is forced answer, you can't really do that.
Jul 4th, 2012 at 01:20 GMT
Eh, why not--I'll cave. I'll add a couple more minutes to the timer and make it forced order. Might as well try it out and if it doesn't work I can always change it back.
Jul 5th, 2012 at 20:40 GMT
Bahaha! Thought the guy on the left for In Bruges was Michael Moore.
Jul 8th, 2012 at 21:20 GMT
Not only a great quiz, but thank you for putting the picture up by the answer space to avoid the usual scrolling up and down problems. Not a knock: But I was surprised more places like Egpyt and in SE Asia didn't show up. I would endorse wholly a sequel to this great quiz.
Jul 16th, 2012 at 15:12 GMT
@BombaySquire: "Spies Like Us" is set, in part, somewhere in the Stans, not sure it is was Kyrgyzstan (Dan Aykroyd mentions the "Top of the World" when they cross from Pakistan/Afghanistan into the old Soviet Union), although eventually I think they end up in Tajikistan.
Jul 16th, 2012 at 16:00 GMT
Really well-made quiz. Good movie selections, and forced order was probably a great decision.
Jul 17th, 2012 at 01:20 GMT
Great quiz, great choices, and forced march is absolutely the way to go. DO MORE!

In Predator the team gets dropped of in Guatemala and they make their way to the fictional country of Val Verde, where the final fight also takes place.
Jul 17th, 2012 at 17:08 GMT
@Gottkaiser: Right. Damn. My original source for that one was totally off. I'll probably just replace the movie altogether, but in the mean time the quiz will also accept "Val Verde" as an alternate answer.

I don't watch enough movies...

I don't normally like making it so you have to answer in order, but in this case I think it would make more sense that way. Good quiz regardless though.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 05:12 GMT
After I couldn't guess any more of them from the pictures, I just pretended that I was playing the countries of the world quiz.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 05:19 GMT
You're off the case, McGarnagle.
wanted to say that.)

I'm astonished that the beginning of Transformers, set in Qatar, wasn't included. :D
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 08:21 GMT
Dru, this needs sequels. This is great.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 10:15 GMT
Kudos for including District 9.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 11:44 GMT
@woodchucker I personally do not watch many movies but I have good knowledge of geography and was able guess my way into the 80 percentile. I think your right and it should be forced in order even if how much I like being able to guess on quizs.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 12:53 GMT
I missed two that I'd never seen and couldn't guess from the picture. I got Belgium, because it looked European. Knew a few by general locale and just guessed countries in the area. And then there were the ones that I just KNEW. "Kid, next time I say, 'Let's go someplace like Bolivia, let's GO someplace like Bolivia!" :)
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 13:20 GMT
Nice to see Val Verde is acceptable.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 14:25 GMT
For the life of me I couldn't remember which Latin American country was the setting for Predator, so I got 2-3 other answers by guessing it.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 14:28 GMT
Thought Predator was The Emerald Forrest

BonnieH, I'd definitely recommend checking out In Bruges. It's a bit dark, but one of my favorite movies ever!
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 15:30 GMT
Couldn't find one with Kyrgyzstan?
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 15:49 GMT
Thought that was supposed to be Martin Sheen, covered in mud and camo paint, going to get Kurtz. And kept trying Southeast Asian countries to no avail.
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 15:50 GMT
Are these all also filmed on location?
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 18:51 GMT
Isn't Guantanamo Bay technically part of the US?
Mar 22nd, 2013 at 22:57 GMT
I could have sworn that Up never was more specific than South America.
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 00:02 GMT
Perhaps instead of voting me down, people could point out the error in my logic. My point is that the island of Cuba and the country of Cuba are two separate things.
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 00:03 GMT
In Bruges is a great movie - more people need to see it!
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 00:30 GMT
Great quiz. I love the appearance of the Sweety man.
Mar 23rd, 2013 at 04:40 GMT
@shibbyhibby I've seen this issue pop up on other quizes Guantanamo Bay isn't technically an American Territory. Its an area loaned out by the Cuban government or something......All I know is that none of the Border quizzes on Sporcle count Cuba as having a border, unlike Cyprus which has 2 UK basses on it but they are considered UK territory.

until i squinted, I thought Michael Douglas was Robert Hays in some Vietnam flashback in AIRPLANE
