You need to say what the Qualifiers for the list are. And change the heading of the third column.

This is a very Telegraph-y list, what with the predominance of British films/sources or featuring the Trainspotting adaptation because you don't have to know Scots dialect. It would be a lot more impressive to come up with a list of films that actually improved on the source material (in which case The Godfather would have to feature).

I want to meet whatever genius decided that neither The Godfather nor Gone With The Wind warranted inclusion.

The 39 Steps
on this list is a joke. The Hitchcock film kept the title, the name of the main character and virtually nothing else.
But that's no reflection on the quiz, which is quite good.

Not many people are getting The Day of the Jackal. Great book. Read it! I'm not sure if I've seen the movie or not.

Is Moby-Dick really even John Huston's best adaptation? It's the best novel he adapted, but surely The Maltese Falcon or The Treasure of the Sierra Madre are better films?

Apocalyse Now is loosely based on Heart of Darkness. The implication of the quiz is that the source and adaptation have the same name.

I expected the Wizard of Oz to be on the list. Maybe I'm dumb though.

I think I'd prefer if a main actor rather than director were used; tough quiz though!

You really should indicate where this list comes from. Is this actually a quiz on your favorite books made into movies?

'Heart of Darkness' should work for 'Apocalypse Now'.

No "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"? It only won five Oscars.

Also "Girl, Interrupted", the only reason Angelina Jolie has a career.

This list makes no sense to me. Maybe they wanted to keep it one film per director but why would you pick The 39 Steps over Vertigo, Psycho or Rear Window? And if they're going purely on the quality of the movie, then apparently the Harry Potter series is better than The Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Godfather and countless others?

you can probably just throw "The Hobbit" on there now cuz theres no doubt in my mind its gonna be just as great as the LOTR trilogy
