	Ronald Reagan is ahead of MLK, Lincoln, Ben Franklin, and Washington, and George W. Bush is ahead of FDR, JFK, Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison??? George Bush didn't even make Time's 100 greatest Americans, and Reagan barely did...

	@sdc1030 it says this survey was taken by the American people...and most of them only know either the really recent stuff or the really flashy stuff, that's why there's no Madison, and Reagan is so high...

	I find this very odd, also. I know the perception of Bush has declined a lot in the last 5 years, but Reagan being higher than George Washington? Reagan had his good qualities...but if this is really indicative of how Americans feel, it's pretty terrifying.

	Washington, Lincoln, FDR, and Martin Luther King deserve to be ahead of Ronald Reagan. They all have done better things for this country than him. I mean, FDR helped guide us through the Great Depression.

	i don't know about FDR World War II got us out of the depression but i don't know how Reagan is ahead of washington, lincoln, mlk, etc.

	We did a UK one of these as well and we ended up with the likes of David Beckham near the top, but I think I'd still rather have him running the country than Dubya!

	Babe Ruth should be here over Lance Armstrong for sports. I mean, the whole country fell in love with him. He was even an internationals star; very rare for his era. Eisenhower helped us in WWII and Korea, so I'd prefer him over a talk-show host.

	The likes of Elvis, Oprah, Billy Graham, and Bush being ahead of someone like Jefferson is kind of disconcerting. Same with Walt Disney and Lance Armstrong making the list but not Ike.

	I agree that Reagan shouldn't be top. However, the actual disgrace is the appearance of either Bush or Clinton (especially that high). Neither were that good and their inclusion looks like petty politics.

	I completely agree with iceman1731. Also, why is this called "the 100 greatest Americans" when there are only 25 people on the list. And besides, the list of great Americans is almost to long to count and rank.

	Well I don't know who they polled in this survey, but I'm sure most Americans would not agree with a lot of these. Its also ironic how I just took the "most hated athletes" quiz and suggested Lance Armstrong be on there hahahaha.

	While a lot of these answers seem unusually highly ranked from our 2010 perspective, we have to keep in mind this is apparently sourced in 2005. At that time, Reagan had died less than 12 months previously, and most people feel an added sense of affinity for someone once they have recently passed. Bush also was viewed more highly then (not by yours truly) and Lance had a squeaky clean image livingstrongly. Beyond that, one might just find evidence that we Americans love our celebrities, whether they be political, stories of folklore, or in some cases, authentic solid accomplishments.

	Reagan ignored the AIDS crisis. He should be in the bottom 100 Americans. He does not deserve any recognition for his presidency based on that alone.

	While I strongly disagree with this list (nice way of saying I think it's complete and utter bull), but I would be able to tolerate the results and just be deeply saddened by my fellows if only there were a source. The lack of source makes it seem like it's made up. I see the note explaining what the source is, but I'd just like to be able to see it for myself. There are all sorts of questions (who did the polling, was it an accurate sampling of the public, etc, etc).
