You know you are old when you get all of these but the 2000s. :) Great quiz! 5 Orbs.

OK, how many of you typed "Johnson" thinking Randy? I'm sure I would have thought of Walter a little later, but Randy definitely came to mind first.

At LEAST 4 times for young. I guess I also never realized that Pettitte has the 2 sets of double t's. That just looks really odd.

@Lions6116 I think it's time to change the award from the Cy Young to the Burleigh Grimes

Pettite... no. Petitte... no. Strange. Would have thought a Yankee would be up there. Oh well.

I thought of Lefty Gomez, but forgot about Lefty Grove. I didn't know there were so many Lefty's.

the spelling of Petitte or pettite should have been accepted for Pettitte. Bottom line is the intent on giving the correct pitcher is there if you're typing petitte or pettite... give me a break.

Couldn't spell Maddux or Marichal. Knew Mathewson, but just couldn't get it out. Great quiz. And yes, typed Young about 4 times.

@Grunt2009 They should accept the spelling of Pettitte as mlxplxgkz 'cause that's my version. Duh! The intent is to give the name of the player asked for, not for your interpretation of said player's name. You spelled it wrong, get over it!

Nichols and Young started at about the same time and Nichols had won a few more games than Young when he quit. He tried coming back a year or two later but didn't have much success. Meanwhile Young kept rolling along for another decade. Young was usually not the best pitcher around, but he was always among the best, and his success through multiple eras and for such a long period makes his career truly incredible.

Add in the fact that Young had all but 11 of his 511 wins in the 1890s and 1900s, it would seem a mortal lock that he had to win one of those decades. Guess not though.

Cy Young won 267 in the 1890s and 230 in the 1900s. I was stunned too.
