| There is probably no perfect way to define "lost too early," but anyone still in the prime of their career or still regularly recording could be in. I'm fine with leaving out Elvis, who was basically a night club act by then, but if so, you need to leave out Ruffin, Kendricks, Garland, Ripperton, and Orbison (I know Orbison was still doing the Traveling Wilburys stuff when he died, but he was long past his prime). Probably anybody over the age of 50 should be left off, as that probably shouldn't be considered too early. Besides the other notable names that others have listed above, some others to consider are Nick Drake, Sid Vicious, Eddie Cochran, Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), Gram Parsons, Hillel Slovak (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Dennis Wilson (Beach Boys), Ricky Wilson (B-52's), and Kirsty MacColl. |
