Excellent quiz! But Fezzik, a creature?
May 25th, 2011 at 01:06 GMT
@XTimer: Hehe, I had considered it. It was also a little weird thinking of the Wicked Witch of the West as a creature, too, but I settled on the fact that a "witch" and a "giant" are definitely mythological creatures and the characters in this quiz are just examples of those classifications.
May 25th, 2011 at 04:39 GMT
Is Fezzik a literal "giant", or just someone who's really really big? "Cyclops" seems a little unfair to me, as well, since really what Mike Wachowski is, technically, is a "monster". (Or a "mikewachowski".)
May 25th, 2011 at 04:42 GMT
I don't think a "giant" is a mythological creature as portrayed by Fezik in 'The Princess Bride'. There are probably better movie giants to use, maybe the one from 'Big Fish'. Good quiz though.

A cyclops is supposed to be a one-eyed giant so I don't think Mike really qualifies in that category. The giant part is important because it's believed that the myth of the cyclops originated with elephant skulls which have a hole in the center where the trunk is that were mistaken as a socket for a single large eye.

Hey guys, just thought I'd clear up some stuff. On Fezzik, I think you're right dummo, I should have gone from the one from 'Big Fish.' If this quiz merits a rewrite, I'll include him in this. The title 'mythical' for Fezzik--I admit--is a little bit of a stretch, but he exhibits qualities that the Wikipedia article described, whether that be because of his 'giant status' or not. As for Mike, I knew I'd probably see this come up. Wikipedia calls him a 'cyclopian creature' (which I accept as an answer, among many others). Thanks for the comments, guys. Keep 'em coming. Even if they're negative, I gotta learn, right?

Head shots of the creatures would be better. Number 5 looks like a leftover from the chimney sweeps of Mary Poppins.

Okay, guys, I buckled. I've replaced Mike with what is pretty indisputably an an actual cyclops. I also replaced Fezzik (a tear shed for his absence) with dummo's suggestion from Big Fish. @slamb, Anyone who would get "Torgo" from a shot of his face will definitely get Torgo from the large shot. Plus, I couldn't pass up a chance to show his goat legs! (Or what the costume crew thought looked like goat legs, anyway!) Alright guys, enjoy the revamped quiz.

Just took this quiz - thought it was great, but after reading the comments it seems like a few changes have been made. So I'm shedding a tear for Fezzik as well... and wondering do ROUS count as mythological creatures? Maybe you can stick them in the sequel.
May 25th, 2011 at 19:53 GMT
If there is a sequel, you should use the goblins from Troll 2.

Technically, Karl just has elephantitis. I mean, nothing in the movie hinted that he was "mythical". Ironically, at the time of his death actor Matthew McGrory, who played Karl in Big Fish, was filming a biopic in which he played Andre the Giant. RIP.

Props for including Torgo! This is a well-made quiz, but I think some of the movie choices are a little dubious. Not so sure about Beowulf and Terabithia...

shame for no hercules but good quiz
May 26th, 2011 at 13:15 GMT
Love that you included The Last Unicorn!!! That was my favorite movie as a kid and I recently found it in the $5 dollar bin on dvd. 5 orbs for that alone!
May 26th, 2011 at 18:26 GMT
Pans labyrinth would've been a good choice, too.

Torgo was supposed to be a satyr? I'll admit I didn't pay much attention to the actual movie plot, as I only viewed it via MST3K... Hilarious. Good quiz.

I kept thinking #7 was a peacock.. *facepalm*
