For sex there are a lot of "more scientific" terms -- copulation and fornication come to mind.

expectoration, scientifically speaking, refers to coughing up and spitting out sputum. It is not a generic term for spitting.

If your clue has "-ing" in it, then you should accept the "-ing" form of the answer.
