I can't "the" to stop showing up whenever you enter "a", and if anyone knows how to fix it, please tell me. Hope you enjoy it anyway!

A good variation/expansion on the theme. It might be best just to drop the commonest words list--the answers are too, well, common. But I'd expand it, not just to replace that one, but maybe make it 9 or 12 categories.

Good idea, I'll do that tomorrow morning though, I'm too tired right now. If anyone has suggestions on what I should add, please tell me, and I'll do it when I wake up.

Make sure the answer for that one doesn't say "the/a" otherwise I'm not sure.

This quiz didn't get as many plays as I was hoping for, but I made the changes anyway. If anyone has anymore corrections/suggestions/problems/praises, just tell me.

I think you should accept London/Paris/Madrid/Mexico City for their answers. I didn't think to type the country at all.

I know this isnt really your problem, since I wouldnt have gotten any regardless, but, not being a Harry Potter fan, thusly not taking the quizzes, I have NO idea what Harry Potter top 200 means. Top 200 what?

I loved this! Good variety. You should accept PS3 for Playstation 3 though, and clarify what year you're talking about with the names, because those are definitely not the most popular for 2009/10.

very fun quiz... i think the reds are only on here because it pops up when people write red sox... also i think the only reason the white sox are there is because when people write red sox, it reminds them of the white sox

The 3.3% who (on the original quiz) got the Red Sox but not the Reds: You're doing Sporcle wrong.

The name of the city is Washington, not "Washington D.C." Requiring the D.C. part is like demanding that Mexico City be rendered as "Mexico City D.F."

Ditto hcif's comment above. Also, I don't know what the Harry Potter quiz itself requires, but it seems like accepting first names there would make sense.

@rutgersmj I only got ginny weasley because I realized they weren't accepting just first names so to save time I only wrote "weasley" (for Ron) and Ginny also popped up.

"Nintendo" is not a video game system, but a manufacturer of them. Its just that the systems themselves have the word Nintendo in them. Otherwise there would be confusion as to whether it were the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo 64

@mantikore People who grew up with the NES just called it 'Nintendo'. Just like nobody called Rocky 'Rocky 1' when it first came out, or any other first movie in a series.

my question exactly -- when you type red sox, you automatically get reds... so how can there be more people who got red sox?? though my guess is quite a bit who guessed reds were going for red sox lol

Sporcle Intern
: We're publishing this quiz, but we're not sure what picture we should use to accompany it on the front page.
Sporcle HQ
: I see. And what is the quiz about?
Sporcle Intern
: It covers a broad range of topics, actually. Hard to summarize that in a single picture.
Sporcle HQ
: Ah...okay. Well, what does the manual say to do when something like this happens?
Sporcle Intern
(thumbing through)
: Umm...ah--oh. Of course.
Sporcle HQ
: Nick Cage?
Sporcle Intern
: Yeah.
Sporcle HQ
: Well, duh.
Sporcle Intern
: You're right. Sorry to have even bothered you with this.
Sporcle HQ
: It's fine. Just get back to work.

@Zak6009, DiegoSanchez: Since I do not know many Big 4 teams, all I could do was try and remember anything I knew about American Teams, and Red Sox was one. I didn't know about Reds, and I missed it (and White Sox), and it didn't allow it.

Fun quiz. For the Harry Potter one can you say CHARACTER mentions and can you accept first names? Almost every other Harry Potter quiz does. It confused me even though I knew the answers.

@Driver54 - It's Mandarin Chinese as opposed to Wu Chinese and a couple other types of chinese, which are generally counted as separate languages and tend to be guessed far less often since most people over here just assume Mandarin (being the only chinese language they've heard of) is the only chinese language there is.

Also, it's not exactly difficult to get red sox without getting reds. All you have to do is start by accidentally typing something like re sox, and then go back and add the missing letter.

Any theories as to why Washington is so popular on the states quiz? I get the others with a high population, but Washington doesn't make sense unless a lot of people start in the corner when doing the map.

For those of you who wonder how people get Red Sox but not Reds, I have a theory. If you wright Ref Sox for example, Reds wont pop up. When you realize you have misspelled it, you don't delete it all, or at least I don't. I don't believe everyone have made this mistake, but there might be some of the explanation. Also in some quizzes the answer wont pop up if you wright to fast.

I always cry a little when 'popular names' shows up in multicategory quizzes. Great quiz though, despite the double helping of tears. Good variety and well-timed.
