This map is probably difficult for most people & unlike my previous map quizzes (with the exception of the Arctic), many of the islands asked for are uninhabited. For those interested, some information on some of the places on this quizzes:
- #5 is considered the most remote place on dry land because of its distance from other land & from people
- in addition to being the Southernmost part of #11, J is the most remote place on land from London, UK
- the area of Antarctica between #12 & #13 is one of the only land areas not claimed by any country
- most Antarctic claims are considered to be dependencies, but Argentina & Chile, consider theirs to be part of a province in the country
- note that #13, #14, & #15 overlap
- ice shelves are sheets of ice that flow off the mainland onto the water, this is different from the sea ice surrounding Antarctica that forms from sea water
- in the Winter, sea ice can extend from the continent almost out to #4
