| adamnvillani - you're right that compared to Hoxha, Alia's time in power wasn't that long-term (but compared to Hoxha's 40+ years, few leaders are long-term). With that column I was trying to avoid the various leaders that were in office less than a year at the end of the communist era as a last ditch effort to hold power and I felt that Alia served long enough and was influential enough not to fall into that category. The other question is the ruler of Yugoslavia, after Tito it cycled through many leaders, but how should they be treated when none gathered much power or served more than a year? |
