There are, quite literally, hundreds of titles that could allow for several sequels. Artists like Ronnie Milsap, Paul Stookey, Anne Murray, Three Dog Night, Toni Braxton, Jim Croce, Al Stewart, and John Mellencamp had major hits with "Song" songs (and some of the artists on this quiz, like Barry Manilow, Elton John and Neil Diamond, had other "Song" songs).
Incidentally, the Simon & Garfunkel choice wasn't a hit for the duo. It was released in the US as the B-side of "At the Zoo". The song was, however, a US hit for the group Harpers Bizarre, who charted with it while Simon & Garfunkel were charting with "At the Zoo". The Harpers Bizarre recording peaked at #13. One member of Harpers Bizarre would go on to be much more well-known as a record producer for artists such as Van Morrison, the Doobie Brothers (not only for the group but some of the solo projects by Michael McDonald, Patrick Simmons and Tom Johnston), Van Halen and Joan Jett. |
