	There is an bird called the Redwing, though. And the term "maverick" can refer to unbranded cattle

	While used to describe cattle, a maverick is an type animal itself. If a steer is branded he would no longer be called a maverick. I don't think branding can change the breed of an animal. Either way, the Mavs weren't named for unbranded cattle.

	The Blue Jackets aren't named after an animal, they are named for the Union's Civil War uniforms.

	Tampa Bay Rays have been renamed to portray a Ray of sunlight rather than the original Devil Ray name. They therefore also should be included.

	According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Detroit_Red_Wings it would seem that the Red Wings took after the name of the Montreal "Winged Wheelers" and the logo (as it is today) was designed to show this (with a wheel). I think Red Wings should be included as well but that is just my opinion.

	@mattL1216 no the rays are still named for the animal, hence the stingray logo on their sleeve and the ray tank in the outfield at tropicana field. ray of light is simply a double entandre so they incorporated it in the new logo.

	@hoos1208: I'm not so sure, according to ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3101213) it seems that the devil ray and ray tank are simply to show where they came from. The Rays idea was decided from thousands of other team names and ultimately was a name change from the Devil Rays in my opinion. I agree it seems weird that they would keep the Devil Ray on their sleeve and yet change the entire logo, color scheme, and everything else about the team name but I still believe that they truly identify as the Rays, named after the sun's rays.

	A charger is a war horse. San Diego's team name is at least a double meaning. I know when you think about them, you think lightning bolts, but I don't think I'm off base about this. Check out San Diego's original logo: http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=164

	@MattL1216- It's still ambiguous if the name refers to a manta ray or a ray of light. Their primary logo has a ray of light coming from the "R", but their alternate logo (seen on the shoulder of the jerseys) is a manta ray. I put it as a bonus answer due to this.

	Are the Phillies named as such just as a play off the city name? I always thought they were named after juvenile horses, but I couldn't find anything on the meaning of the name in a quick internet search so I could be wrong. I guess it makes more sense for the former since the latter is actually spelled with an F.

	@howeyty11- Except for the 1920 Chicago Cardinals, all of the Cardinal logos have depicted the bird. @silent_explosion- The Trail Blazers is named for the early Oregon settlers, so to accept part of its name as an animal wouldn't make sense.

	@HollywoodLeo- I couldn't find anything either, although the Flyers were named for the sole purpose of sounding good, and I've never heard of an animal called a "Philly".

	@devilsfan15- The Bills are named after historical figure "Buffalo Bill" Cody. The Sabres also have a buffalo (-looking thing) as their logo. Why? No idea.

	The Buffalo teams (Sabres, Bills) have buffaloes as their logoes because of the city name, not because of the team names.

	And I'm confused by this, why make this quiz, with 81 answers, instead of animal named, with only 31, seems to make more sense, especially since there are only 122, its pretty much naming all the teams, yet stopping yourself for certain ones. (E.X.for the MLB, out of 30 teams, there are 22, not including some bonus answers.)

	@njsoxfan- Philly is short for "Philadelphias" (stupid, I know). For a brief period between 1943 and 1948, they were informally known as the Bluejays, which is depicted in their 1944/45 logo. But yes, the Chargers were named after an animal, so will be removed.

	The Phillies are actually named after Phillies cigars because an early owner of theirs in the 1800's also owned the cigar company and liked the idea of using the team to promote his product and having it sound good with the name of the city.
