| Ah crap, forgot the roster construction: OK, so the idea is to fill a roster of the optimal 25 careers of that franchise's history. All players are ranked by baseball-reference.com's career WAR with the club. A player is eligible at a position if he played more games at that position than at any other (so, not necessarily a full 50%, just more than any other) during his time with the club. The first nine positions are the starting lineup; the rest is the bench. Note that DH is not actually the best DH (as there have been very few good career DHs), but rather, the best player left over after filling in the other starting positions. All outfield positions are grouped together, so it is just the three best outfielders, whether they played mostly RF, CF or LF. 1B/3B is the next-best 1B or 3B, ditto 2B/SS, OF are the best two outfielders not already listed, and 'UTIL' is the best position player, at any position, who still hasn't been mentioned after all of the above have been filled in. For pitcher, SP is the five best starting pitchers, CL is the best reliever, SU are the next two best relievers, and the two "Mopup" slots are the two best remaining pitchers, be they starter or reliever. Hope this makes sense, and have fun! |
