| @machinegun-why is it absurd to think that they stole the cy young from someone else? simply because of the player who won had a better career? we arent talking about their careers here, though. we are talking about individual seasons. if another player had a better year, they had a better year. period. however, the voting on these awards has not always been perfect. im not trying to take anything away from roger clemens, but, in 2001, he DID steal the cy young from his teammate mike mussina. look at the stats. mussina had a 3.15 era compared to clemens 3.51. mussina had a 1.067whip compared to clemens 1.257, mussina had 214 k's to clemens 213. unfortuntely for mussina, the yankees scored less runs when he pitched than when clemens pitched, and he ended up with a 17-11 record compared to clemens 20-3 record. mussina CLEARLY pitched better that season, however. |
