| A few important notes: 1) This data is from baseball-reference.com's PI search feature, which does not yield positional career leaders parsed by game. Rather, these are the career leaders for players who played at least 50% of their career games at the position in question. Quoth BBRef, "For example, a search for career HR leaders for catchers will return Johnny Bench with 389, but he actually hit only 326 as a catcher to go along with 63 as a pinch hitter, designated hitter, third baseman, outfielder or first baseman." 2) For rate statistics, the minimum is 3,000 career plate appearances. 3) "Best not listed" is the player with the best career numbers at the statistic in question, who for whatever reason do not appear on any of the other positional leaders, *only for that statistic.* For example, say Albert Pujols has spent 1/3 of his career at each of LF, 1B and 3B. He wouldn't appear on any of the other lists, but he would make it to this last list, if he were the career leader aside from those already mentioned. This list is mostly comprised of players who split their careers among multiple positions such that they did not spend 50% of their career at any position, and players who had very good careers, but were overshadowed by someone at the same position. Hope this makes sense, and happy guessing! |
