It'll be tough for people to get the hang of at first but if we made it through Vatican II changes then I'm sure we can do this

	What they say isn't really why they are doing it. Really, this is mostly about getting back through Vatican II to the earlier side.

	well the new translation is a formal equivalence translation of the novus ordo, which is a post Vatican II Mass Order anyway. the earlier stuff, referring to the essentials of the eucharist etc., has never been changed

	I'm not sure this is what you mean, but the Liturgy of the Eucharist does have changes in it: the prefaces will be different, the Sanctus is different, etc. I really only have one major theological complaint (the Creed: yes, "credo" is "I believe," but (1) the original Greek Nicene Creed is "we believe," and "we believe" is much more appropriate because it is a communal profession of faith of a communitarian church), and the rest is stylistic and pastoral. Change for the sake of poor translation is a bad idea: In French, "qu'est-ce que c'est" is literally "what is it what that is?" A better translation is, "What's that?" For all but the PhDs, "one in being" is a much better translation than "consubstantial with." Et cetera.

	oh no, sorry - i was literally only referring to the fact that the eucharist itself is still in the mass, i know that the prayers surrounding it will be different. In the original creeds, both πιστεύω in greek and credo in latin mean 'i believe' not 'we believe.' saying 'i believe' together as a community should get across the communal aspect of the profession. and i actually do think consubstantial gets across the relationship between JC and God better than 'one in being,' obviously 'one in being' is easier to understand for most but it might be better for people to actively look into the meaning of this new word. and by the way for anyone who reads this i don't necessarily want to argue, i legitimately love discussing this stuff and i hope this is how these crazy paragraphs are coming across (sorry if not!)

	Eh. I think that few enough people frequent this category that we can have our discussion and nobody will care. I guess whether you like the changes has a lot to do with your approach to liturgy. Personally, I appreciate the point of (some of) the changes intellectually, but I really don't like the politics behind them, and simply don't like the flow. The old "dynamic equivalency" usually resulted in something fairly poetic; the new is, by and large, clunky and being done for the sake of some pedant's notion of fidelity (pun intended). And that's a shame. Anyway, it's not like it's going to stop me from going to Mass. PS "Pisteuomen" is the original word, not the infinitive root "pisteuo," and it's first person plural.

	true lol. and if the problem really is flow, then thats not really a problem at all. it is clunky and awkward sounding in english i would 100% agree - i do still agree with the translation being done. but i guess at that point this really is a matter of opinion. and i went ahead to google the greek creed, and some websites do give the 1st plural πιστεύομεν and others give the 1st singular πιστεύω. i can check my departmental library to get a definitive answer for that one, I'd be interested to see the result. and as a note im not using typed greek letters just to 'sound smart', i actually did need to get someone to adapt my computer for typing greek due to the requirements of some former greek/latin classes a few years ago. i still use the letters now just for fun :)
