| @reddevils1: London XI were a team made up of Arsenal, Brentford, Charlton, Chelsea, Palace, Fulham, Orient, Millwall, QPR, Spurs and West Ham players.
In the early years of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup the tournament was designed to encourage trade between major cities, and set up among cities that were holding "trade fairs" that year. As such, a London combined team was allowed to compete in the first one. It was a few years later that this system was replaced by qualification on merit... by league position or by (in England) winning the League Cup.
It was never recognised by UEFA but is still often considered the 'predecessor' tournament to the UEFA Cup. |
