| @Dralcoffin: when ZIP codes began to be used (early 1960s) Florida was more populated than Iowa, but the difference wasn't terribly big (5 million vs. 3 million). Of course today, when Florida has nearly 19 million people and Iowa still has 3 million, to give Florida 2,000 codes and Iowa 3,000 seems a bit ridiculous, but probably the postal service couldn't foresee such a growth for Florida. To make predictions is difficult, especially about the future. |
