You might say "slimmest countries, with a vertical OR horizontal orientation" which, to me, would be much more descriptive than using the words "length" and "width". That doesn't seem much longer than the wording already in place and would seem clear to both English and non-English native speakers. I think from the comments above, I'm not the only person to point out that in English length is usually associated with vertical orientation and width with horizontal. I do speak several other languages and am aware of differences, but these instructions are written in English and are, therefore, usually interpreted in English. |
