	@joebobs: thanks. As for Thailand, it appeared in the first Longest Countries quiz, but as it has no adjacent islands, exclaves, dependencies, etc., that could increase its length, it's now below the last bonus (Solomon Islands with 1,681 km or 1,045 miles). Take into account that this game includes many countries (France, the UK, the Netherlands, etc.) that now appear because of their overseas territories but didn't make the first list, so many other countries must be left out.

	@folio1701: well, it was a Norwegian (Amundsen) the first to arrive to the South Pole. But even if you don't count Antarctic claims, Norway owns an island (Bouvet) in the South Atlantic (roughly between South Africa and Antarctica), and so it would make a high rank in the list, however.

	@lukebradford: in fact, there are actually many earth bases in Antarctica, but I excluded countries that have bases but not territorial claims. (By the way, including the American base in the South Pole doesn't alter the ranking: the distance Point Barrow, Alaska to South Pole is 17,926 km or 11,139 miles, so the US is still fourth after the UK). Even Uruguay has an Antarctic base! And if Uruguay appeared in a quiz about the longest countries, I'm afraid I wouldn't be voted very high.

	@backer: but if Taiwan claims the whole of mainland China, both countries (People's Republic of China and the Republic of China) would appear in this quiz with the same extreme points and the same length. I think it's irrelevant for this game. You just enter "Taiwan" and it's accepted; it doesn't matter if the measure is 1,700 or 3,500 miles. By the way, Taiwan is the less guessed answer; that means that 3 out of 4 players not only don't know that Taiwan claims the whole of China, but also that it claims some tiny islands that make it appear in the list (to be honest, neither did I know about the tiny islands before making this quiz).

	@dancastro, you need to change "Cocos Island (Guam)" to either "Cocos Island (Mariana Islands)" or "Guam (Mariana Islands)". All the Mariana Islands is a US territory just as the US Virgin Islands; not just Guam. There are multiple islands in each territory, thus keeping it consistent is helpful. Sorry to be picky.... It's because I'm familar with the geography of the area since my PhD dissertation (in progress) is on a sample of volcanic rocks from the Mariana Islands.

	@AlexKrycek: Cocos is a small island (1 mile long), lying at about 1.5 miles off the south coast of the main island of Guam, so it adds some 2.5 miles to the length of the US territories. If I say only "Guam (Mariana Islands)", someone may comment "Sorry to be picky, but there is a little island..." If I say Cocos Island (Mariana Islands), someone may comment "Where the heck is Cocos Island? I can't find it on my map of the Mariana Islands" (remember it's very small). Perhaps "Cocos Island (off the coast of Guam)" would be better, but I tried not to exceed two lines of text in the third column explanations.

	Actually, Taiwan not only claims all of mainland China, but also parts of its many neighbours. 	@MathijsP: I've seen the map that shows all the territorial claims of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and, as you say, they include some parts of Russia, Mongolia (the whole of it!), Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bhutan, India and Myanmar. However, the border with Kyrgyzstan (from where is measured the maximum length of China) is undisputed. I've relied on my source (Google Earth) to measure the length of the countries; maybe some disputed borders aren't marked as such (with a red line). But again, it's irrelevant for this quiz. You enter "China" and win one point; you enter "Taiwan" and win another point. It was a very interesting information, anyway.

	Awesome quiz. As a note, most sources I've read suggest that Norway's Antarctic claim doesn't define a southern border, so although the South Pole would presumably be claimed Norway officially makes no claim to that effect.

	Great quiz, but an update is needed. Sudan doesn't border Kenya anymore, not since this summer when South Sudan became independent. So I believe that the measurement for Sudan should now be something like 2,053 km (1,276 mi), from the northern tip of the Hala'ib Triangle (disputed) to the border with the Central African Republic in Kafia Kingi (also disputed).

	@zifyoip: thanks, it was updated (now Sudan appears with its new length, although it's still a regular answer but with a lower ranking). @StupidBunny: I supposed that all the Antarctic claims extended to the South Pole; I didn't know about Norway (but how curious that the Norwegian claim doesn't reach the Pole, having been a Norwegian who first arrived there). However, Norway owns Bouvet Island in the South Atlantic; that would make it appear in the game anyway. @smike: there is already a Longest Countries game, in which only continuous landmasses are considered (and therefore the Netherlands proper, with only 341 km of maximum length, are far from appearing).
