| @chriskotx: I don't know about the Buddhists, but the Hindus have used many different eras. The one I listed (Saka) is the commonly used now in India along with the Christian era. But the Hindus have invented huge chronological cycles, like the kalpa (4,320,000,000 years). There is even a calculation according to which the current kalpa began in the year 1,972,947,102 BC. Of course all these figures are only theoretical; for practical purposes, it's easier to say that we live in the year 1932 (by the Saka era) than in the year 1,972,949,113 of the current kalpa. |
