Shouldn't either "Luciana" work for "Antipholus" or you specify "Antipholus of Ephesus"?

OK, point to johnlk just for the sheer intense geek knowledge. And a 5 to this quiz, for a really nice idea and a good mix of familiar and good-lord-who-is-that. (And man was it hard to spell the name of the princess of France in Henry V.)

Claudio in Measure for Measure's fiancée is called Juliet. I don't think she's in it but their relationship's important to the plot.

Juliet in Measure for Measure explains that she loves Claudio, so they're definitely a qualified couple. I'm wondering if it's too much to ask to account for misspellings? Like, I've seen but not read a lot of these, for example I couldn't spell Henry V's Katharine correctly even though I knew the name. It's perfectly reasonable to not accept misspellings, though. :)

The First Folio says "Katherine" for the Henry V character: http://internetshakespeare.uvic.ca/Library/facsimile/book/SLNSW_F1/447/?size=small&view_mode=normal&content_type=

How about Bassanio and Portia from "The Merchant of Venice" on here? You could let the answer be "Balthasar," too, since she dresses up as a man at one point.

Please accept "Lady Anne" and "Elizabeth" for Richard III and "Luciana" for Comedy of Errors.

Ahh, where are Troilus and Cressida? And I feel like the term "lovers" is used loosely here... for example, Goneril and Regan may be married to those guys, but they really aren't interested in them and end up falling for Edmund in
King Lear

I've never actually read the play, but dosent Othello murder Desdemona?

Yes, Jam1, Othello murders Desdemona. But it's because he loved her so passionately that when he was (falsely) led to believe that she had been conning him all along it threw him into a murderous rage. So yeah, f**ked up relationship, but they were lovers all right.

Extraordinary Idea. Was expecting to get more than two, sadly Macbeth (easy given) and Romeo (another easy one). Love Shakespeare :)

Juliet should also count for Claudio because Claudio and Juliet are the lovers in Measure For Measure.

wow, I only got 6, and there was only one that I thought "shoulda known!" It might've been more fun if there was more medium difficulty.

I'm not sure Macbeth and Lady Macbeth should count, since they're married they're not really "lovers". But otherwise, great quiz.

A little disappointed not to see Portia and Bassanio along with Jessica and Lorenzo, and, like others, surprised by Lady Macbeth, Regan, and Goneril, who are female characters but not romantic characters by any means. Celia and Oliver, Maria and Sir Toby, and Oberon and Titania would perhaps be more appropriate choices. Nevertheless, I really like the idea and enjoyed the quiz.

I agree that 'lovers' is a little ambiguous for a shakespearean quiz. Particularly with a midsummer night's dream, I mean, we know who everyone ends up with in the end, however everyone more or less throws down at some point in the play.

If the column headings weren't "Male" and "Female," you could have had Antonio as another answer for Sebastian. Come on, it's totally there.

@Jam1: Othello did kill Desdemona, but he really really loved her before Iago went putting crazy ideas in his head. @ChileNoseJam: Before they kill Duncan, the Macbeths do appear to have at least a very comfortable, close relationship where they talk to each other plainly and about anything--lovers? I guess.

A quiz contrived and executed well, save only for some already mentioned omissions that you may have wanted to include.

@Iscah, @ChileNoseJam, @Jam1 and @Thalia, although the characters you have mentioned may not clearly be lovers, there is definitely a passion behind their relationships. The Macbeths are deeply in love and there is a raw sexuality in their earlier scenes whilst Lear's daughters use their overt sexuality with their partners to gain power. Hope this is sufficient explanation. Thanks for all the comments everyone!
