| A 125 OPS+ as a Met, and that includes his two sub-par seasons. 131 HR's, 97 SB's (and only 16 CS's), and incredible defense in Center Field. That's a great player, no matter how you slice it. This so-called "fragile" player played 80% of the Mets games between '05 and '08, despite getting his skull crushed in in '05 and suffering a variety of nicks and bruises over the years. It wasn't until last year that he missed significant time, and if you want to blame that on anyone other than the Mets atrocious medical staff, I don't know what to tell you. You hate him for one pitch, which I guess is understandable, because it was the most important single pitch of his tenure with the Mets. But if you think any hitter would have hit that pitch, you're just an idiot - Adam Wainwright is one of the better pitchers in baseball and that was a sick curveball. Sometimes you've just got to tip your cap to the opponent. It's just a shame that the Mets front office has done such a piss-poor job surrounding him, Wright, Reyes, and Johan with any kind of decent talent since '06 that he hasn't had a chance to redeem himself in the postseason. Beltran is the best center fielder in baseball over the past decade, and most Mets fans have been too stupid to realize it. It depresses me. |
