| Nice quiz! Interesting, plus there's a few curveballs thrown in. |

| much depends on the central govertment here,i presume China is here because there is only one tax.For exemple Canada is not there but we get taxed by the federal, provincial and municipal, but i also assume this is not taken into account. |

| Good quiz.
US, thanks to Obama, is going to be there soon! Damn communists, messing up the world. Just google Van Jones! And watch Glenn Beck if you want to know the truth. |

| High taxes are very positive if the goverment uses them well, like in Scandinavia. Here in Belgium, we have enormous taxes and still a huge government deficit and an even bigger national debt.. Where did the money go:D?? |

| You need to accept UK. |

| 45% seems like a lot, until you think about that being in a country that calls itself "communist". |
 | DanielMunster: | Apr 4th, 2013 at 17:08 GMT | | 33 points |
| Scandinavian countries have super high tax rates but a lot of that money gets funneled right back into the people. In Sweden for example the government provides free childcare, and free primary through tertiary education for all citizens, on top of healthcare of course.
Having a highly educated and healthy young population is massively beneficial for an economy, and for a society.
I'm just saying this to counterbalance those who seem to think high taxes = communism = evil. There are benefits to living in a welfare state. |

| At the risk of getting political, I simply can't think of any excuse to have income taxes exceed half of a person's income. No excuse. |

| The UK changed on the 1st April to 45%- but that banding is only if you earn over £150,000 anyway. I pay 20% in income tax as do most Brits. |

| GAThrawn's comment makes sense if you assume those two answers where the only ones he got/saw on the quiz |
 | StupidBunny: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 04:40 GMT | | 5 points |
| also @bchovanec: you will only get it if you play the quiz on Tax Day in the US, which I guess in whatever time zone Sporcle is counting isn't until tomorrow. That kind of thing has thrown me before as well. |
 | chrismet: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 04:49 GMT | | 9 points |
| @21_Guns, I agree with what you're saying but you only pay 50% on any earnings over a particular threshold, before that you pay a lower rate on earnings beneath that threshold. |

| @mattycakes345 correlation does not equal causation |
 | kaulbach: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 05:43 GMT | | 6 points |
| UK top rate is 45%, not 50%.
I also think the French top rate is 75%, although this may not be effective yet - it takes effect in 2013, but may not be effective as of now. |

 | kaulbach: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 07:03 GMT | | 3 points |
| Having read the source link it is for 2012 only.
The rates are good then, but the blurb at the top should clarify that it ignores 2013. |
 | Josh: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 07:15 GMT | | 31 points |
| I wonder what that tax rate gives you in Zimbabwe... Good public healthcare? Good public schools? Infrastructure? |
 | hanseliezer: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 07:57 GMT | | 3 points |
| Cayman Islands as a bonus, maybe? |
 | slorora: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 08:38 GMT | | 16 points |
| @irishfan1 Nor does @mattycakes345 say it's a causal relationship. He's merely stating the fact that high taxation and high quality of life very often go hand in hand. You can't deny that! (Well, you can, but you'd be wrong). |
 | Pulviriza: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 08:47 GMT | | 3 points |

| I thought the UK lowered their top rate to 45%. |
 | Piou: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 09:52 GMT | | 1 point |
| @kaulbach: the 75% top rate isn't effective as the law project has been rejected. It would concern only the millions earned over the first million. So basicaly if you earn 2 millions in a year, you would pay 45% on the first million and 75% on the second. So as you may guess it would be a concern for only a few part of the population. |

 | m0ckers: | Apr 15th, 2013 at 12:32 GMT | | 9 points |
| The top rate in the UK was 50% on all tax over £150k pa up until 5 Apr 2013, when it was lowered to 45% over the 150k pa threshold. The government has craftily combined this with the lowering of the higher rate of 40% down from ~£35k in 2011/12 to ~£32k for 2013/14 thus making the richest richer, and pushing many middle earners into the top rate tax bracket. |
