| @tonybraintree: You're mistaken. The city isn't "Green". |

| tampa bay is a city |
 | bballsportsstats: | Jan 19th, 2011 at 19:44 GMT | | 16 points |
| No, the city is Tampa, not Tampa Bay. And Washington is a city, it is the only city in the District of Columbia. |

| I have no idea where it comes from, but just because I've seen this misconception before:

Any Green Bay deniers, look at this OFFICIAL US GOVERNMENT WEB PAGE, and then tell me if you still think that. |

| This is hyper-pedantic (which is what happens if you edit too many NY pp on Wikipedia) but does New York always refer to the city (or metropolitan area) or does it signify New York state for some teams, as Texas Rangers refers to Texas? Or are some owners canny enough to leave that happy ambiguity unresolved? (They want fans from Albany as well as Queens). |
Comment below threshold: show it | deej: | Jan 20th, 2011 at 13:38 GMT | | -18 points |
| Also hyper-pedantic, but the proper name of the city is "Washington, DC" and not just Washington, so one could at least argue that the Washington teams' names don't contain a city. |
 | jimpoz: | Aug 18th, 2012 at 16:25 GMT | | 5 points |
| New York should be listed for the Islanders. They don't play within the City of New York and are not named for it. |
 | tympanicttu: | Aug 18th, 2012 at 16:32 GMT | | 4 points |
| Quiz has become outdated. New Jersey Nets are now the Brooklyn Nets. It doesn't affect much, but should still be addressed. |
 | midnightdj: | Aug 18th, 2012 at 16:44 GMT | | 2 points |
| tympanicttu: Nets is not included in the answer (at least anymore) and there is still the New Jersey Devils, so it is not outdated. |
 | midnightdj: | Aug 18th, 2012 at 16:45 GMT | | 9 points |
| Although, honestly, Brooklyn should be added as an answer since it is not a city but a borough within NYC. |

| Brooklyn has been added. |

| I agree that "California" should count for the Angels. No one knows how they call themselves today. I think they're the California Angels of Anaheim in Los Angeles of California. |

| This quiz deserves five globes alone for recognizing that Tampa Bay is not a city. You'd be surprised how many people in West Central Florida don't realize this. |
 | jimmydoom: | Oct 6th, 2012 at 15:37 GMT | | 10 points |
| the angels may have somewhat of an identity issue, but they have not had 'california' in their name since 1996. |
 | WalterSobchak: | Oct 6th, 2012 at 15:43 GMT | | 33 points |
| I'm pretty sure the New York in New York Islanders refers to the state; the team has always considered itself Long Island's team and not the city's. I guess it works as a bonus though. |

| I would include New York for the Jets, Giants, and Islanders...but it's fine the way it is... |

| FWIW, which must not be much since he was voted down, I think truwarier has a valid point. The Angels should at least be a bonus answer. |

| Am I the only one who was very confused as to what the quiz was asking for? Geographic names? River? Lake? Mountain? Might it be better worded if it asked, "Can you name the 'Big 4' sports teams who do not have a city in their names?" |

| I like the idea of this quiz, but I found the directions too vague to get the concept. Before I saw the answers, I couldn't understand why entries like "Rockies" and "Islanders" (without place names) didn't satisfy the requirements. A little more explanation would go a long way here. |

| Brooklyn used to be a city but it became part of NYC along with Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island (originally Richmond) in 1898 |
 | jimmydoom: | Oct 7th, 2012 at 18:10 GMT | | 3 points |
| brooklyn is a borough (the equivalent of a county) of new york city. it was previously called kings county. your mail is addressed to brooklyn, but the city you reside in is new york. |
 | ShortyNJ: | Oct 7th, 2012 at 21:41 GMT | | 1 point |
| Yeah, New York could apply to city or state, but it doesn't. It applies to a metropolitan region, as we New Jersey taxpayers are regularly told. |
