No one actually lives in the bay (unless they live on boats). Also, the Tampa Bay Area has over 2 million.

Calgary and Edmonton can't be that big. Good quiz though.

Calgary, Edmonton and Ottawa all have populations greater than 700,000 according to wikipedia. The same is true for Colombus, Charlotte, and Indianapolis.

Calgary - 1,079,310 Edmonton - 782,439 Ottawa - 812,129 Not even close really. Metro population would be a different story.

Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys are in Arlington, population: 380,000.

@araphelt: True, but the geographic names for those teams are "Texas" and "Dallas", respectively.

@araphelt: The Giants and Jets play in East Rutherford NJ, the pistons play in Auburn Hills MI, and that is probably true of the town of the actual stadium for many teams, but it's irrelevant as corndog wisely points out

interesting quiz, but populations of just the city proper don't really do justice. these quizzes always screw over st louis, boston, atlanta, miami, cincy, pittsburgh, etc

BTW having Golden State, Carolina, and Tampa Bay as 0 population would be a good bonus.

STL_47 - That's kind of the point of this quiz. There are other quizzes related to the actual city the teams play in. This time we have to think just in terms of what the geo name says.

BiloxiSean --- Golden State refers specifically to the state of California and I assume the population of "Carolina" would be the combined pops of North and South Carolina. But for "Tampa Bay," I'm with you --- it's now in as a bonus with the note that nobody actually lives in the bay, but surely there are a few folks who live on boat slips in a marina.

I would include Tampa Bay as a real answer rather than bonus, and put its population as 0. Good quiz.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there exist 769,332 residents in Columbus, Ohio. The cutoff had to be somewhere.

Around 1970, Indianapolis annexed almost all of Marion County. They are something like the 12th largest city but the 33rd largest metro in the USA. However, corndog may be able to include the CFL cities of Hamilton and Winnipeg (and province of Saskatchewan?) in this list.

just to be clear, you should mention which pro-sports you are talking about and their respective leagues (ie NFL, NBA, MLB, etc.)

@daHOOK: Hamilton and Winnipeg would make the list. However, while the city of Regina, where the Roughriders play, may be quite small, the population of the entire province of Saskatchewan is over a million, so wouldn't make the list.

ok, so the Tampa area has over 2 million people, so do most of the metro areas. Why differentiate Tampa as a metro area and all the other cities for their populations within the city limits?
corndog

@zacL: The geographic name is "Tampa Bay". Since "Tampa Bay" isn't a city, I thought the most logical limits to set were those around the Tampa Bay Area. On the other hand, the other geographic names in this quiz are names of cities, so it is logical to set the limits around the actual cities.
