	I guess I still don't understand the demarcation between "northern" and "southern" constellations, since Canis Major, Columba, Lepus and Cetus are all clearly visible from the middle latitudes of the northern hemisphere.

	@mjenks: As I understand it, it's determined by where on earth the constellation can possibly be directly overhead (which for any given star can only happen at one particular latitude). If you included all the constellations that were visible from anywhere in the northern hemisphere, that would basically be all of them.

	For those of us who have ALWAYS known Crux as the Southern Cross, honestly, I've never heard it called Crux, can that be added, please?

	I am perfectly aware that Crux is the Southern Cross, but I have NEVER in more than half a century ever heard it called that. Please add this as an alternative.

	@ mjenks: The northern constellations are north of the celestial equator. The sourthern constellations are south of the celestial equator. It works just like Earth.

	The Southern Cross is on our flag and I've never known it's proper name is Crux. I think that while Crux should be the name in the quiz, Southern Cross should also be accepted. Easily the most recognisable constellation outside of the star signs.

	If you look at the comments on the Northern Constellation quiz you'll see there position (north or south) is determined by where the mid point of the constellation is, because most are visible from either hemisphere and several straddle the celestial equator. I think the two quizzes could be combined into one to name all the modern constellations.

	@llewdor: Except constellations are not single points, so many constellations straddle the celestial equator. So just saying "north of the celestial equator" or "south of the celestial equator" fails in many cases.

	There are a number of constellations that are visible in both northern and southern hemispheres, mostly those that are on or near the ecliptic. So, a few of them overlap the categories. As for naming conventions, there are 88 official constellations, almost all with official Greek or Latin names. All the rest are called "Asterisms" in the field of astronomy. If you include "Southern Cross" in the game as a name for Crux, to be fair, you would also have to accept: "the possum", "Mirrabooka", "Chakana","Te Punga" and uncountable others if you go around the world and back through time! So get to work, game coder!
