| If I remember my 8th grade North Carolina history class correctly (its been 10 years), Charles I was taken off the thrown and the Eight Lords Proprietor fought an underground battle to get his son, Charles II, back on. Charles II rewarded them with the Carolina charter, which included a good chunk of modern day NC. Maybe the northern coast was settled by Virginians, but Carolina as a whole was not a colony until this point (the first settlers were Spaniards in the mid 1500s anyway). At least 4 of the Proprietors have counties named after them in North Carolina, it might be more but I can't remember. |
