I don't believe being a general or cabinet secretary is an elected position. Why does "general" work for Washington and Grant, but not for Taylor and Eisenhower? Also, many of these people held multiple offices. For instance, Madison was a congressman as well as secretary of state. Monroe was a senator. McKinley was a congressman. Better to have each one individually, rather than guessing "governor" and getting a dozen.

I think the quiz needs to specify you were looking for political jobs. I was wondering why actor, peanut farmer, haberdasher, etc. weren't working.

Yeah, I entered "lawyer" and was surprised to find that the thing didn't light up like an Xmas tree. Off the top of my head, recent Presidents who were JDs include Obama, Clinton, Nixon, Taft, and probably others.

i think the quiz is meant to go by what the president's job was just prior to taking the office of president

Heading should say job rather than elected position - as johnlk notes - cabinet secretaries and generals aren't elected position. General should work for Eisenhower and Taylor.

Eisenhower was a college president before he became President. I definitely agree that general should work for Ike and Taylor. Washington was President of the Constitutional convention after he resigned his military commission.
