When US was created in the 1770s, the most democratic fathers of a country actually ensured that it wouldn't be democratic, i.e led by demoses, because in ancient Greece the democracy had ruined the polises. Hence they ensured that it would be a representative democracy, so the common people wouldn't have the actual power to ruin their country, and also they ensured that the election candidates needed to have certain wealth. But okay, this is not really related here, as it's the same system in the, hmm, more democratic countries, too. |
