| I find it rather hilarious that, out of the 27 appearances at the World Cup by 11 different Asian countries, 1966 North Korea is one of the only ones to have ever progressed to the quarter-finals. The Asian Cup is usually dominated by South Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran (plus Australia), and it's only in the last couple of years that the North Koreans have even been able to make any headway at even this level. I guess that squad was just six decades or so ahead of its time (and deserving of being called national heroes)! |
