| @sowcrates--oh thank you so much for telling me, someone who has experienced homophobia every day of his life, what is and isn't homophobic. i don't know how i'd live without that help! note: i said "casual" homophobia/trans*phobia. it's less blatant yet still as effective as beating someone to a pulp. to borrow a metaphor from marilyn frye, casual homophobia such as this is just one little bar in the birdcage. looking at just this one bar, you can't quite see the issue. looking at every bar in the cage, every instance of homophobia, then describes the birdcage that traps the oppressed group. these photos are essentially these celebrities in drag (granted, photoshopped). commenting that it's "horrifying" or "disturbing" to see women with facial hair mocks drag (which is inherently linked to the LGBTQ community) and those outside the gender binary. |
